Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Maxxis Assegai is suitable for technical descents in sand and forest surfaces in both dry and wet conditions.
  • Equipped with a slightly stiffer carcass which makes the tyre suitable for highly technical descents over tree roots or rocks.
  • The Assegai 3C MaxxTerra EXO TR has a good balance between grip, durability and rolling resistance.
  • Thanks to the EXO protective layer in the sidewall, the Assegai is protected against cuts.
  • Tubeless Ready technology makes the tyres easy to make tubeless with 90ml of latex sealant per tyre.
  • As the Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxTerra EXO TR is a very wide tyre, the frame must offer enough clearance for it.
  • Tubeless sealant should generally be topped up every 3-6 months.

Description

Description

The Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxTerra EXO TR is an Enduro/Trail variant of the signature downhill tyres of three-time world champion Greg Minnaar. Assegai stands for the type of spear used by the Zulus, an African warrior people. The Assegai 3C MaxxTerra EXO TR has a profile for maximum grip on hard and loose rocky surfaces and a compound for an optimal balance between grip, durability and rolling resistance. This makes this Assegai a very well-balanced tyre that should give you the confidence to fly over the most technical courses. With this Assegai you can easily keep to the ideal racing line.

Technology

3C MaxxTerra
The 3C MaxxTerra is the intermediate compound in terms of hardness of Maxxis' Triple Maxx Compounds. The 3C MaxxTerra is softer and offers more traction than MaxxSpeed, and is more durable and faster than MaxxGrip. This gives you the best of both worlds.

EXO Protection
EXO Protection is a wear-resistant protective layer in the tyre's sidewall. It offers excellent protection against cuts into the sidewall. The densely woven material is lightweight and highly flexible to ensure that the tyre's performance remains unaffected.

Tubeless Ready
This Maxxis Assegai EXO TR tyre is ready for tubeless riding, that is, it can be used without an inner tube. This has many important advantages such as lower rolling resistance, more grip, more control and more comfort.

Assegai front tyre. The best tyre currently available. A real all-rounder with MaxxTerra

- Bernd 14 March 2024

I ride all-mountain with a strong affinity for trail riding. It's difficult to find the right tyre. Tried many tyres. I've had many pairs of tyres with too many disadvantages. But I've finally found the solution. Schwalbixxs: Assegeai with 3C MaxxTerra and light EXO carcass at the front and Schwalbe Nobby Nic Super Trail Snake Skin at the rear. This makes for good progress uphill or on the road and a safe and controlled descent on the trail. Extreme pairing but it works.

- Hayo 31 August 2022

I can only agree with the product description. Riding uphill like a tank - in terms of grip and weight. Purchased together with 30 mm wheelset in attempt to ride easy and medium trails in Switzerland with XC-bike. This has worked out quite well the past few days. Sur-place on 15% descent if you want to get your bearings? Matter of your balance, these tires don't slide anywhere. They really just fit on Scott Scale frame; millimeter work.

Pros & Cons

Control
Super grip up and down
Heavier
Pebbles or branches sometimes get stuck
