Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The soft compound in these Shimano B05S brake pads provides good control and braking power.
- The resin (soft) brake pads make less noise than metal sintered (hard) brake pads.
- These pads are the best choice for flat to hilly courses in dry conditions.
- These pads provide the reliable braking power we've come to expect from Shimano brake pads.
- Thanks to the soft compound, these brake pads engage quickly.
- In wet conditions these brake pads wear out faster than pads with a harder compound.
- These brake pads can lose braking force due to the heat generated during long descents.

The Shimano B05S Resin disc brake pads are organic MTB brake pads and the successor of the well-known Shimano B03S brake pads. Compared to these, the B05S pads provide the same braking power and modulation but last a bit longer.
Good modulation and braking power
Organic brake pads consist of soft materials. This gives these brake pads excellent braking force and makes them easy to modulate. The soft compound also means that the pad grips onto the rotor quickly. In addition, the organic compound ensures that these brake pads don't make much noise when they're being used.
The disadvantage of organic brake pads is that they do not cope well with high temperatures, which can occur during long descents. Also, organic brake pads wear out faster if you ride in muddy conditions. If you're going to the mountains or often ride in wet conditions, you should consider brake pads in the Shimano D fit with a metal or semi-metal compound.
Please note:
Manufacturers use different fits, so please make sure the shape of the brake pad in the picture corresponds with the shape of your current brake pad. If you don't know what shape you have, please scroll down to the bottom of this page. Here, we've noted which brake pad is suitable for which type of brake.

• 2 Shimano B05S brake pads (including spring and cotter pin)
It is essential that you break in your brake pads after fitting them. This is because breaking in the pads will make them last longer, brake better and squeak less.

Cheap bad buy / unusable
- Markus 24 July 2025
After fitting the brake pads, loud noises/squealing can be heard. The brake pads are correctly positioned in relation to the brake disc and the brake disc has been sufficiently cleaned.
