Shimano R9100-P Dura-Ace Powermeter

Shimano is taking on the competition with the R9100-P double-sided power meter. If you already have a 9100 crankset, you can transfer your current chainrings to this powermeter. But fortunately, you can also buy the powermeter with chainrings if you don't already have them.

Reliable and Rechargeable
Shimano has tested this powermeter extensively so the system works flawlessly and is water resistant in all conditions. The battery is rechargeable with a cable, the battery does not need to be replaced regularly like other powermeters. Fully charged, the battery lasts +/- 300 hours, depending on conditions and method of use.

Training advantage
The great advantage of using a power meter is that it does not differ based on external conditions. The power you provide does not change, making it a very objective value, unlike your heart rate. In fact, your heart rate is a subjective value and, instead, is very dependent on conditions. However, the advantage of a heart rate monitor is that it reflects your current shape accurately. Your heart rate shows whether you are rested, or whether you are getting tired or sick. It is therefore advisable to monitor both values so that you can gain insight into your training load and your build-up towards the season. Ultimately, the right balance between training and rest will allow you to pedal more power with the same heart rate for better performances!

With cadence meter
The Dura Ace R9100 also measures cadence using a sensor that rotates along a magnet. Cadence measurement via a magnet is more accurate than with a built-in accelerometer as the built-in variant is affected by road vibration. The connection can be made via ANT+ or Bluetooth.

Be careful with your front derailleur!
Only front derailleurs from the Dura-Ace R9100, Ultegra R8000 and 105 R7000 series work properly with this crankset. The front derailleurs from the previous 11-speed Shimano series do not shift well in combination with this crankset. This concerns the following front derailleurs:

• 105 FD-5800
• Ultegra FD-6800
• Dura-Ace FD-9000

If your front derailleur is listed here, you will need this Shimano Dura Ace R9100 Front Derailleur to be able to properly use this crankset. This front derailleur does function with the Dura-Ace 9000 shifters.

Advantages compared to heart rate monitors
The wattage (torque (force x crank length) x rpm) gives an objective picture of your muscular effort at each moment of your ride. This has great advantages in relatively short interval blocks, where heart rate monitors often fall short. Because while a heart rate monitor sometimes takes up to two minutes to reach the heart rate zone associated with your effort, assuming weather conditions or fatigue/health are not a factor, a power meter provides accurate feedback within five seconds. That way you won't risk overexertion during those short interval workouts. With a power meter, you know for sure what effort you are putting in - at any time. So you can set your own limits and your pace. Specific training is also possible, for example a sweet spot training for an optimal training effect. By keeping track of your Training Stress Score (TSS) and Intensity Factor (IF), you can determine your 'training stimulus'. With this information, you can create an accurate training schedule that will help you reach your goal. You'll also prevent overtraining by doing so.

Post Race Analysis
After each training session or race, you can use the Shimano power meter to analyze your progress in detail. You know exactly where you used power, how much and for how long. How did you handle your power at certain moments? Did you hit a wall? Did you have heavy legs? If so, where - and why? You'll find the answer in the results. You may discover that you got heavy legs because you were applying too much power at too low a cadence. Or maybe the workout was a success and you want to repeat it later, or parts of it. The power meter is a real inspiration. You can accurately measure your progress both indoors and outdoors, in training sessions and in races. And your trainer will be happy with it, too.
