Reviews over the
Garmin Edge 840

Compact and fast navigation
840 is compact, settings via phone are handy. In the beginning it takes some getting used to how everything works but after a while you get used to it.

Good as to be expected from a Garmin but not necessarily a marked improvement over the 830
Purchased this Garmin after more than 5 years with the Garmin 830. Am satisfied but the navigation on the map seems to lag slightly behind the real location, causing me to miss a turn a few times. Also the start screen (where you can switch between the different profiles) is a step backwards in my opinion.

Beautiful device, poor manual.
Switched from an 820 to this 840. The features are vast and it takes some adjusting to the new screen layout. Once set up, the device works like a piece of cake and the data you can display while cycling is very practical. But....when is Garmin going to learn to produce a good and precise manual ? Automatically connecting to Garmin Connect as described didn't work until I (1) realised that you have to manually pair the device before you can get it to connect automatically and (2) performed a software update on the device.

Pricey, but worth it.
Quite an improvement over the Edge 530 I had before. 1. Touchscreen I always missed with the 530; in the age of smartphones and tablets, it just works much more intuitively and quickly. 2. The updated navigation works much nicer; if you drive wrong once (diversions, ...), you now get the option to pause the navigation, and as soon as you are back on the old route, the navigation continues automatically. My Edge 530 used to nag/beep/... for minutes in such a situation. As a bonus, route calculation is also much faster. 3. Adjust route during ride is now possible; directly from your smartphone (I usually use Komoot) you can now push new routes to your Garmin, without having to stop your activity. For me, those are the main improvements. Even discounted, it's still a pricey thing though; for the same money you can buy a very decent smartphone.

Top product as we have come to expect from Garmin
So far a very nice device. Paired it with my wahoo kickr and it actually works surprisingly well. I must also admit that the touchscreen feels good and natural. The battery life is also very good and the options that are endless at the moment. Very nice device
