Fine "Beginner mountain/cross country bike"

- Joukje, 8 April, 2023

The Cube Aim Ex is an excellent "Beginner/Cross Country MTB." After 30 years, I really wanted another MTB/XCB that suited me not only in specs, but also in looks. This Aim Ex looks tough, solid and sporty. Although the color combo Desert/Black (model 2022) appealed more to me, I opted for the Caramel/Black. The bike was neatly delivered to my home. On second thought it would have been more convenient if I had given my inseam measurement and height. Possibly Mantel would then have been able to fit the bike better. There is a rattle on the large front wheel which can easily be solved when I have my bike checked in 2 months (now in use for about 1 month) to adjust everything again. The lock-out does not work very well, after a week or two the fork springs a bit. I will have to have this checked as well. The shifters are mounted too close to my grips for my taste. It doesn't feel natural and I adjust how I place my hands. This weekend I will have to adjust it myself. Since I ride mostly on road and dirt trails and grab a bit of forest here and there. Are the tires too soft for my taste. I personally like cycling on hard tires, even though I know I have less grip on sandy surfaces. But the 29" tires make such a difference. As I mentioned before, after 30 years it is nice cycling again for me. The shifters work smoothly, but it is still searching for which gear I can find my cadence on. On one I average about 24 km/h and 2km faster becomes unpleasant, on the other it is 28 km/h, but with too much headwind it becomes unpleasant. Conclusion: The Cube Aim Ex is a very capable and fast bike.
