Bike insurance ANWB
Starting from the 18th of September 2024, we're offering our own Mantel Bike Insurance. It's no longer possible to insure your bike through the ANWB. We will still be of service to our customers who already have ANWB bike insurance. This means we'll still resolve thefts and damages for ANWB policies taken out before the 18th of September 2024.
Upon renewal, the following changes apply:
- The deductible for theft changes to 5% of the insured amount
- The increase in the deductible for theft of parts or damage (including total loss) from €25 to €50
Upon renewal, the following do not change:
- the second lock obligation does not apply
- the five-year new value coverage remains in effect.
Renewal of ANWB Bike Insurance taken out before 1-3-2023
The aforementioned changes are not implemented for older policy types (old Doorlopende Fietsverzekering, Aflopende Fietsverzekering and Blijven Fietsenverzekering) .
Your bike will be insured at the purchase value of the bike. If you bought the bike more than 1 year ago, you can only take out bike insurance with a valuation report, our workshop can help you with that. In the conditions you will find which compensation you are entitled to.
Report the damage (from theft), with a description, to us within 8 days by contacting customer service or visiting one of our stores. The report must be accompanied by a copy of the police report and clear photos of the original bike keys. Photograph the front and back of both bike keys from the lock. If the insurance is taken out after 1 March 2024, a second lock requirement applies to all e-bikes; it must be ART-2 approved. You will have to lock your bike with 2 locks. A plug-in chain does not count as a second lock, it really has to be a separate (chain) lock. Keep the keys for at least 3 months after the report. If the photos are not clear enough, we will ask you to send the keys. You will bear the cost and risk of sending the keys.
We will ensure that the claim is submitted to the insurer. When we have a response from the insurer, we will notify you immediately. This takes a maximum of 10 working days.
If the claim is accepted you can choose a new bike at Mantel for the same purchase amount as your stolen bike.
Can I get the insured amount paid into my account?
No, this is not possible in case of theft. ANWB bike insurance through Mantel is insurance in kind for the first 5 years. This means that you can choose an equivalent bike of the same value as the stolen bike from Mantel. This is the insured value of the bike at the time of purchase.
If you have opted for claims cover, we can file a claim with the insurer. This requires a clear description of the cause of the damage and an appraisal. The appraisal can be carried out at one of our stores, the cost of which will be waived if you decide to carry out the repair. It is also possible to request an appraisal at a local bike store. With this information, we can forward the damage report to the insurer on your behalf.
If the claim is awarded and the claim amount determined, it will be settled by the insurer within two weeks. All that is then required for a repaired bike is an appointment at our workshop.
