Fine saddle.

- Ulrich, 24 August, 2021

First of all: the saddle is extremely fine. It seems very narrow (I bought the right size), but you get used to that. Probably because I had placed the saddle too far back (so mainly the front of the rails were stuck), one rail broke (see photo). Because the rails are hollow, I was able to fix it by gluing a nail in with 2-component glue. So that rail is a weak point and one should make sure that fixing with the seat post or dropper post is in the middle of the rails.

Pros & Cons

Comfortable fit
No more numb penis
One rail broke after a year

Stiff but comfortable saddle. You have to get used to it and in terms of saddle position, it is further forward on the rails than e.g. the WTB comp (in my case). Good grip in rain, but sitting quickly behind the saddle requires a bit more convincing. When your knees drop in a bit more when pedalling, the thigh can chafe a bit at the nose. This is a bit flatter than other saddles. All in all, though, the cushioning, padding and shape are very comfortable. It is a saddle you do need to ride 3 or 4 times before you get used to it because of the flatter shape. Especially when coming from an S-shape saddle like the WTB comp. The seat bone width advice at Mantel versus Ergon itself differs in terms of size selection. There is an overlap between sizes, of course, but good to know
