How to pair a Wahoo turbo trainer successfully with Zwift and Strava
A Wahoo turbo trainer is a great way to train indoors - but it can be difficult sometimes to pair it correctly with apps such as Zwift or Strava. In this blog, we will explain how to do this, step by step, and give you tips on how to avoid common problems. This way, you can get the most out of your training sessions!
Step 1 – Check your equipment
Before starting, make sure that:
Your Wahoo trainer is connected to a power source.
Your smartphone, tablet or computer is up to date.
The Wahoo app is installed on your device.
Tip: Updating the firmware on your trainer may help to prevent connection problems.
Step 2 – Pair the trainer using the Wahoo app
Open the Wahoo app on your smartphone or tablet.
Go to Sensors or Devices.
Select Add New Sensor → Select your Wahoo trainer.
Follow the instructions for a Bluetooth or ANT+ connection.
Tip: If you are not using Bluetooth, an ANT+ dongle may be required to access Zwift on a PC or Mac device.
Step 3 – Connect with Zwift
Open Zwift and log in.
Go to Paired Devices.
Select Power Source, Controllable Trainer, Speed Sensor.
Select your Wahoo trainer from the list and connect.
Test the resistance and cadence to make sure that everything is working properly.
Tip: Sometimes it helps to turn Bluetooth off and on again, or to restart the trainer.
Step 4 – Synchronisation with Strava
Make sure your Zwift account is paired with Strava in Settings → Connections.
All completed rides in Zwift are automatically synchronised to Strava.
After your first ride, check that the data has been transferred correctly.
Frequently occurring problems and solutions
Problem | Solution |
Trainer is not recognised | Check Bluetooth/ANT+ connection, restart trainer and app. |
Cadance or speed is not correct | Calibrate the trainer using the Wahoo app. |
A ride will not synchronise with Strava | Check connection in Zwift settings, log in again. |
Trainer does not respond to resistance | Update firmware using the Wahoo app, restart trainer. |
Extra tips
Place the trainer on a flat surface for optimal performance.
Keep the Wahoo app and Zwift up to date to prevent compatibility issues.
If you prepare well and follow the steps listed above, pairing your Wahoo trainer with Zwift and Strava will be easy. So, follow the steps, check firmware and connections regularly, and you will get the most out of every indoor and outdoor training session!

I started cycling in 2022, and I was immediately enthusiastic about it. From the beginning, I especially enjoyed the tours: just cycling, discovering new places, and enjoying the views. What appeals to me most are the climbs; those challenging hills really give me a kick. Nowadays, I cycle a lot on the road with my road bike, and I also regularly go on training rides or beautiful tours. In the future, I especially hope to do many more rides abroad and fully enjoy beautiful routes.
