The membrane of this mountain bike winter shoe is made of Koala Gore-Tex material. This material is completely wind and waterproof, but retains good breathability to counteract excess heat. The insulating capacity of this material is optimal and it also gives the shoe a comfortable fit. This allows you to perform to the maximum in all conditions in winter.
Jaws carbon injected sole for stiffness and comfort
The Northwave Celsius XC Arctic GTX features a Jaws Carbon Reinforced sole with a stiffness index of 8 out of 12. This sole is made of nylon that has been injected with carbon. This makes the sole stiff without sacrificing comfort. In addition, the sole has a rubber outsole for good grip on any surface.
SLW2 locking system for a good adjustment
The Northwave shoes are equipped with their own developed SLW2 adjustment systems. With this SLW2 closure you can easily and precisely adjust your shoe by turning the wheel. This allows you to tighten and loosen the shoe click by click. With this you pull the wire evenly over the foot, so that the shoe fits nicely without pressure points.
EasyFit Climaflex sock for comfort and warmth
To make the shoe comfortable, but to give you optimal protection against cold and rain, the shoe is equipped with a raised sock. This sock is made from 1 loop for an optimal fit and minimal seams. In addition, the donning and doffing has also been improved compared to its predecessor due to the New Gaiter Shape and handy loops at the top. The sock fits nicely around the ankle and ensures that heat stays inside while rain can't get in. Make sure that you wear your cycling tights over the sock so that water does not seep in via the pants legs.
4-layer insole for excellent insulating capacity
To keep your feet as warm as possible in the winter, the insole consists of three different materials that are built up in four layers. These layers consist of E.V.A + Aluminum + E.V.A. + coat and ensure that heat remains well insulated within the shoe, while at the same time feeling comfortable.

In order to help you, as best we can, to choose the right size shoe we have measured all the shoes ourselves. All that's left for you to do is measure your own foot length, and we'll tell you which shoe size per brand suits you best. Does your foot length in mm not appear on the relevant product's page? Then that particular shoe is not available in a size that suits your foot length.
You can easily measure your foot length using an A4 sheet of paper, placed on the floor against a wall. Stand with one foot on the piece of paper, with your heel against the wall. Draw a line above your big toe (or above the index toe if that is longer). Now mark your other foot on the paper in the same way. Measure both - the measurement of your longest foot is your foot length in mm's! Please note: some manufacturers have their own measuring system, and as a result what appears on the shoebox can deviate from what we have measured.

Premium shoe with a dial that has design issues
I own both the cross (XC) and road (R) version and both share the same problem : the X-Dial has a screw made of soft alloy and the head wears out. I had to replace the dial on each pair once and it's a nightmare to get that screw out. Last time I had to jigsaw the whole dial to remove the screw. The fact you have to replace the X-Dial due to either the rope jamming or because it simply fell off during a ride is a concern already a big enough concern. Cannot recommend. I've had a pair of Van Rysel shoes for longer and never had an issue. Mantel staff was prone to help, but the shoes are just not up to what they cost. Also, don't get fooled on the waterproofing : 9 times out of 10 the water comes from your trousers and falls of in your socks. Your shoes may be waterproof but if your trousers aren't, your doomed to ride with wet feet. Front mudguards that are low-hanging are IMHO what helps the most in maintaining feet dryer for a little longer. You'd be surprised how much water gets from the wheel into your shoes.

The shoe is just a bit too narrow for me, which means I do get cold toes even after 1h at zero °C. It is better than with normal shoes + overshoes, but still. It would be great if NW could market a wider version.

Once attracted nice and warm feet, now a solution against rainwater seeping in from above
Once I have the shoes on, they keep my feet nice and warm, even after three or four hours of cycling. In heavy rain, rainwater does seep in at the top (even with trousers over the shoe), causing wet and therefore cold feet. No idea whether there is a shoe where this is not the case.
