Chain with hub gears
- Low-maintenance.
- Efficient power transfer in medium-power systems.
- If poorly maintained, a chain may make noise.
Derailleur system
- Lightweight and allows for gear shifting during pedalling.
- Allows for very light gears and, therefore, is highly suitable for use in hills and mountains.
- The open design allows for dirt and dust to get into the system.
