Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- Performs almost as well as a full hot-wax treatment, but simply from a dropper bottle
- Lasts 350 to 400 km per fill-up: about 20 per cent longer than the previous Super Secret formula
- Significantly improved performance in wet conditions, thanks to smaller wax particles and new fullerene friction modifiers
- Saves up to 7 watts in friction loss compared with traditional chain oils
- Feels dry and clean as soon as it has set: does not attract dirt or dust in the same way as wet oil does
- For best results, the chain must first be completely degreased: this wax does not work as well on a chain containing old oil or dirt

If you want the very best performance and longest lifespan, then the Silca Secret Chain Blend (hot-wax) is an option: it requires a separate wax pot, but lasts even longer than this dropper version.
Tungsten disulphide (WS₂) and emulsified wax base
The formula combines Silca’s signature WS₂ powder with an emulsified wax base. This optimises the chain surface and minimises mechanical friction, comparable to a full hot-wax treatment.
Fullerene friction modifiers
New, smaller wax particles and fullerene friction modifiers provide significantly better protection in wet weather and in mud, with a longer lifespan than the previous Super Secret formula under the same conditions.
Suitable for:
- Any bicycle chain, provided it has first been thoroughly degreased or previously treated with the same or a similar chain wax
- Chains that have previously been treated with Silca Secret Chain Blend or another chain wax, as part of routine maintenance
Not suitable for:
- A chain that has recently been treated with wet oil: remove all old oil first before applying this wax
Not sure? Here’s how to check: If you’re unsure whether you can switch from another chain wax or oil to Super Secret 2.0, first degrease thoroughly with a chain degreaser before applying the new wax.
First, clean your chain: wipe down a previously waxed chain, or degrease and dry a chain that has been treated with oil. Shake the bottle well, place the chain on the chainring (largest chainring, largest sprocket) to improve penetration, and apply one drop per roller whilst pedalling backwards slowly. Then pedal through a few more revolutions to distribute the wax evenly and allow the chain to cure for at least 4 hours before riding (leaving it to dry overnight is ideal).
- Only ride once the wax has had at least 4 hours, preferably a whole night, to cure
- Allow for 350 to 400 km per application, or until the chain becomes noticeably louder: that is the sign that it needs reapplying
- Degrease the chain thoroughly before switching from chain oil to this wax for the first time, to ensure the best results
- Always shake the bottle well before use, to ensure the WS2 and wax particles remain thoroughly mixed
