New: Garmin Edge 1060 cycle computer – Now even smarter!
The Garmin Edge 1060 has arrived, and it does something you have never seen from an Edge before: It listens to you! Simply speak to your bike computer, and it does what you ask. Hands on the bars, eyes on the road.
Recently, we have been asked this question more and more often: Is Garmin bringing out a new bike computer or model anytime soon? The answer is now a resounding yes—and what a model it is! The Edge 1060 is Garmin’s new flagship unit for cyclists who train seriously and love discovering new routes.
In this blog, you will read all about what is new on the Garmin Edge 1060, why voice control is such a leap forward, and whether upgrading from your current Edge is worth it. Spoiler: We are extremely impressed!
Hands-free voice control: Just speak to your Edge!
The biggest news on the Garmin Edge 1060 comes down to a small hole in the body: a built-in microphone. It lets you operate the Edge completely hands-free using your voice. No other Edge in the current lineup can do this—and honestly, once you start using it, you will not want to go back.
Imagine, for example, you are in the middle of an interval and want to check your map. Instead of reaching for your screen, you just say the word, and the Edge switches displays. Or your riding buddy sends you a message asking where you are—you can reply out loud while keeping your momentum. And if you spot a pothole, you can report it instantly by voice so other cyclists get an automatic hazard warning.
Messages are sent through the Garmin Messenger app on your paired phone, as either text or audio messages. You can exchange messages with other Edge users, Garmin watches, and smartphones running the Messenger app. Voice control is available in several languages.
Why does this make such a difference? When you are on the bike, you want your hands on the handlebars and your eyes on the road. Every time you reach for a screen, your attention leaves the ride for a moment. With Garmin Edge 1060 voice control, that is no longer necessary—a benefit you will notice especially on descents, in a group, or on busy cycle paths.
A built-in speaker talks back to give you audio prompts, so you always know what is happening without having to look down at your display.
Physical buttons and touchscreen in a more compact body
The Garmin Edge 1060 features the same large 3.5 inch colour display (480x 800 pixels) as the Edge 1050. Yet it is noticeably smaller (107 mm tall compared to 118.5 mm) and at 142 grams, it is also 19 grams lighter. You could say it offers more screen per gram.
Control options have also seen a major overhaul. Where the Edge 1050 relied purely on a touchscreen, the 1060 combines physical buttons with a touchscreen. In the rain or while wearing thick winter gloves, simply press a button or use voice commands. On a sunny day, swipe through your map. You choose whatever works best in the moment.
And rain will not stop you anyway: The Edge 1060 is water-resistant to IPX7 standards.
Forward-thinking navigation: Up Ahead and Free Flow Routing
Edge devices have always been great at navigation, but the Garmin Edge 1060 active bike computer truly thinks ahead with you. With Up Ahead, you can choose which stops you want to keep track of along your route—such as a café, a water refill point, or a public toilet. As you ride, you will see the exact distance to the next stop. This makes planning a coffee break effortless and ensures you always know when to top up your water bottle.
Prefer to train without interruptions? Free Flow Routing will be your new favourite feature! It finds training routes with fewer traffic lights, junctions, and slow road sections. It is a great solution when you want to complete an interval session without constantly having to hit the brakes.
Cycling maps come preloaded, including Trailforks MTB trails, and extra maps can be added via Wi-Fi. Routes from Strava, Komoot, or Ride with GPS sync in just a few taps. Prefer to build your own? You can create a route directly on the Edge using the touchscreen.
Reverse charging: Your Edge as an emergency power bank
This is one of those features you don’t think about until you desperately need it. If your phone or rear bike light is running low on battery while out on a ride, you can top them up using the Garmin Edge 1060. All you need is a USB-C cable. It is ideal for bikepacking trips or extra-long rides on a summer’s day.
It is designed for emergency use rather than charging while riding, so you will use it during a quick stop. But on a long day out, that single feature can be the difference between a working tail light all the way home or riding in the dark.
With up to 20 hours of battery life under demanding use and up to 60 hours in battery saver mode, the Edge has plenty of reserve power to spare. For truly epic endurance rides, you can snap the Garmin Charge Power Pack onto the Edge Power Mount.
Smarter training with Power Guide and Real-Time Stamina
The Garmin Edge 1060 is not just a navigator; it is a full training partner. Real-Time Stamina shows how much energy you have left based on your current effort level. Power Guide then sets wattage targets based on that stamina, elevation profile, and wind conditions. This prevents you from blowing yourself up on a climb and ensures you save enough power for the final kilometres.
With Garmin Coach, you get adaptive training plans that adjust based on your recovery and targets, and you can even incorporate strength training sessions. To unlock full training insights, you will need a heart rate monitor and a power meter which pair easily via ANT+ or Bluetooth.
When riding in a group, GroupRide lets you view messages, live locations, and leaderboards from your riding mates. And if someone suffers a crash along the way, incident detection automatically alerts the group.
Upgrading from an Edge 1050 or an older model?
Currently riding with a Garmin Edge 1050? Then you are already familiar with the large display. What the Edge 1060 adds on top is hands-free voice control, physical buttons alongside the touchscreen, reverse charging, Up Ahead, Free Flow Routing, and a lighter, more compact body. The advantages of voice control and physical buttons are things you will appreciate on every single ride.
The question we hear most often regarding bike computers is whether a new model will fit existing mounts. Good news: The Edge 1060 uses the standard Garmin quarter-turn mount. Your existing mounts remain fully compatible, and both a standard mount and a flush out-front mount are included in the box.
One small note: Your silicone case and screen protector from the Edge 1050 will not fit because the 1060 is smaller. Garmin has produced new silicone cases in eight colours, allowing you to give your Edge a fresh look right out of the box.
Still riding with an Edge 1040 or older? Then the step up is even greater: Alongside all the new capabilities, you will also get the bright, high-resolution colour display that was introduced with the 1050.
Conclusion
The Garmin Edge 1060 is the Edge computer we have all been waiting for. Hands-free voice control is a true game-changer that makes riding with a computer safer and more relaxed. On top of that, you get buttons alongside a touchscreen, a lighter compact body, forward-thinking navigation, and a unit that doubles as an emergency power bank for your phone.
Whether you train seriously, love exploring new roads, or regularly ride in a group, the Garmin Edge 1060 is a top-tier choice. Get the absolute most out of your Garmin with these accessories!

I learned to ride a bike at a young age, and I really enjoy road cycling. When I started working for Mantel, I was a weekend helper at the Superstore in Arnhem; after completing my education, I got a full-time position there. I was in daily contact with customers and products, which allowed me to further expand my knowledge of bikes and parts. I enjoyed doing this for three years, while also designing and building my own road bike. Today, I work as a product specialist, combining my passion for cycling and my experience in the shop to help our online customers make the best choices when buying a road bike, childrens bike, e-bike or accessories. For me, cycling is not just a sport but also a way to bring together technology, knowledge and fun.
