Campagnolo Shamal Dual Profile Rennrad Laufräder

Campagnolo's Shamal wheels have a rich history. When the first version came out in 1992, it was futuristic and a turning point for the industry for several reasons. It was the very first road bike wheel to use a deep aerodynamic rim. Also, the Shamal was the very first wheel to come fully built, where before hubs, spokes and rims were bought separately and assembled by a wheel builder.

Dual Profile rims
This new version of the Shamal makes the switch to a rim with varying height. Rim height is 45 mm where the spokes go through, and 40 mm everywhere else. Thus, you get a rim that has the stiffness of a deeper rim and the wind resistance of a lower rim. The Campagnolo C-LUX finish gives the rims a reflective look, very attractive indeed. Each wheel uses 21 spokes in the G3 pattern, which means they are grouped in threes, two of which go to the drive side because this side is exposed to the greatest forces during cycling.

Tyres
With these wheels, Campagnolo follows the recent trend of wider rims and tyres. The rims have a 23 mm inner and a 29 mm outer width, so wide road bike tyres from 28 mm upwards will fit perfectly. The high inner width also allows for wider tyres to be used. The spokes are internal and the spoke nipples are inserted through the valve hole and guided to the right place by means of a magnet. Thus, there are no holes in the rims and so both tubeless and clincher tyres can be mounted without requiring rim tape.

Hubs
Each hub is made from a single piece of black aluminium. Campagnolo sticks to the familiar cup & cone system with this wheelset. Provided the bearings are properly adjusted and maintained, this system has very little resistance. Fortunately, cup & cone hub maintenance is very easy.

All in all, this all-round wheelset is an ideal upgrade if you are looking for good performance in the wind and a low enough weight for fast climbing. The wheels are hand-spoked and each wheel is carefully checked before leaving the factory, so Campagnolo is sure to deliver the quality for which it is known.
