Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- 220 TPI carcass for extremely low rolling resistance and excellent puncture resistance.
- The laser profile on the edge of the tyre provides optimal grip on asphalt.
- The 'Active Comfort Layer' has a shock-absorbing effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface, without negatively affecting the rolling resistance.
- Thanks to its hookless compatibility, this tyre can be used with hookless rims up to 5 bar and is easier to fit.
- The Vectran anti-puncture strip protects the tyre from punctures.
- Continental compromised on durability with this tyre by focusing more on low rolling resistance, keeping it lightweight and puncture resistant.
- Installing tubeless tyres is generally more difficult and time-consuming than the familiar tyre-and-tube combination.

More stability and comfort
The GP 5000 S TR has an updated carcass, giving the GP 5000 S TR good stability in corners and at high speeds. The tyre is also equipped with an Active Comfort layer. As the name suggests, Active Comfort ensures a high level of cycling comfort. The Active Comfort layer has a shock absorbing effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface without affecting rolling resistance. The Grand Prix 5000 S TR therefore provides a comfortable ride with optimal rolling resistance.
Excellent puncture protection
Lastly, this Continental tyre has a Vectran anti-puncture strip. This additional inner layer offers improved protection against punctures. Continental claims that the risk of punctures is reduced by 20% compared to its predecessor, the Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL. With this improvement, Continental makes a significant contribution to the durability of the Grand Prix road bike tyres. With the Grand Prix 5000 S TR, you will be as fast as lightning and as light as a feather!
A perfect mix of polymers, especially designed soot particles and filler components ensure excellent performance in terms of grip, rolling resistance and little wear and tear to your road bike. The carbon particles incorporated in tyre compound formulas for road bikes and mountain bikes ensure an advantage in performance. They improve the limits of rolling resistance, wear and tear, and grip.
LazerGrip technology
Continental has laser-processed the edges of the Grand Prix 5000 S TR for optimal grip on the road surface when cornering. You can really feel the difference at high speeds or in wet conditions!
Active Comfort
This tyre is equipped with a shock absorbing layer directly under its surface. This Active Comfort layer dampens the vibrations from the road surface. The increased comfort level allows you to stay in an aerodynamic position for longer, giving you a riding experience that is unparalleled.
Vectran Breaker layer
The Vectran Breaker layer is an anti-puncture protection layer under the tread. This strip prevents sharp stones, twigs and glass splinters from passing through the outer tyre and reaching the inner tube. With this anti-puncture strip, you can enjoy your ride fully, knowing your tyres are protected against punctures. Various Protour teams constantly test the latest technologies in order to offer reliability to the consumer.

Superb fast tyre
Very happy with this model, quick and comfortable

Nice tyre, very competitive, punctured quite quickly because of this, just like the competition.
Started on Schwalbe Pro One's and after 2000km (summer) first puncture (tubeless setup). (Winter) New Pro One on, this one punctured after only 100km. Bad luck. Next I tried the Conti GP 5000, first impression is that it has a better finish than the Schwalbe (better symmetry, a nicer finish.) Rolling is also fine. This will be my default fast tyre. However, this one was also flat again within 50km, really bad luck. It was striking that the pebbles I found in the puncture were so small that I asked myself whether a competitive tyre is for me, as I don't have a follow car. From other experiences I gather that winter is also a killer for competitive tyres. That's why I have now chosen the Pirelli Cinturato Velo (tubeless), with the peace of mind that I will lose a little on rolling resistance, but this is hardly noticeable. Very happy with my choice, going for a long ride feels much nicer now.
