Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • 220 TPI carcass for extremely low rolling resistance and excellent puncture resistance.
  • The laser profile on the edge of the tyre provides optimal grip on asphalt.
  • The 'Active Comfort Layer' has a shock-absorbing effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface, without negatively affecting the rolling resistance.
  • Thanks to its hookless compatibility, this tyre can be used with hookless rims up to 5 bar and is easier to fit.
  • The Vectran anti-puncture strip protects the tyre from punctures.
  • Continental compromised on durability with this tyre by focusing more on low rolling resistance, keeping it lightweight and puncture resistant.
  • Installing tubeless tyres is generally more difficult and time-consuming than the familiar tyre-and-tube combination.

Description

Description

The Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR is the perfect tyre for performance-oriented cyclists who are looking for absolute speed. Thanks to an updated production process, Continental was able to reduce the weight of this tyre by 50 grams compared to the Continental 5000 TL. In addition, the "Lazer Grip Technology" that gives the tread such good grip expands over the tyre shoulder. This gives the GP 5000 S TR optimal grip in the corners. This laser-cut profile improves the airflow around the tyre for better aerodynamics. The tyres are also suitable for biking with hookless rims up to 5 bar, so rolling resistance can be brought to a minimum.

More stability and comfort
The GP 5000 S TR has an updated carcass, giving the GP 5000 S TR good stability in corners and at high speeds. The tyre is also equipped with an Active Comfort layer. As the name suggests, Active Comfort ensures a high level of cycling comfort. The Active Comfort layer has a shock absorbing effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface without affecting rolling resistance. The Grand Prix 5000 S TR therefore provides a comfortable ride with optimal rolling resistance.

Excellent puncture protection
Lastly, this Continental tyre has a Vectran anti-puncture strip. This additional inner layer offers improved protection against punctures. Continental claims that the risk of punctures is reduced by 20% compared to its predecessor, the Continental Grand Prix 5000 TL. With this improvement, Continental makes a significant contribution to the durability of the Grand Prix road bike tyres. With the Grand Prix 5000 S TR, you will be as fast as lightning and as light as a feather!

Technology

Black Chili Compound
A perfect mix of polymers, especially designed soot particles and filler components ensure excellent performance in terms of grip, rolling resistance and little wear and tear to your road bike. The carbon particles incorporated in tyre compound formulas for road bikes and mountain bikes ensure an advantage in performance. They improve the limits of rolling resistance, wear and tear, and grip.

LazerGrip technology
Continental has laser-processed the edges of the Grand Prix 5000 S TR for optimal grip on the road surface when cornering. You can really feel the difference at high speeds or in wet conditions!

Active Comfort
This tyre is equipped with a shock absorbing layer directly under its surface. This Active Comfort layer dampens the vibrations from the road surface. The increased comfort level allows you to stay in an aerodynamic position for longer, giving you a riding experience that is unparalleled.

Vectran Breaker layer
The Vectran Breaker layer is an anti-puncture protection layer under the tread. This strip prevents sharp stones, twigs and glass splinters from passing through the outer tyre and reaching the inner tube. With this anti-puncture strip, you can enjoy your ride fully, knowing your tyres are protected against punctures. Various Protour teams constantly test the latest technologies in order to offer reliability to the consumer.

Choose another tyre.

- Michiel 29 June 2024

I had good experiences with this tyre 2 years ago with the width 28 mm. Now in a month and a half 2 tyres width 32 mm have been written off due to transverse cracks in tread and sidewall. I would not recommend them again.

Fast, comfortable but difficult to assemble the first time

- Dennis 25 June 2024

With these tyres, I feel an increase of 1kmph compared to the factory tyres that were on the bike. Also, handling is better and the ride is softer on my arms. Even through 5km of sharp gravel I didn't ride flat. Fitting is difficult but doable with 2 people and sopping water
