Measuring is knowing. To make it easier, there is the Park Tool SBC-1. The SBC-1 is ideal for measuring spokes, ball bearings and crank split pens. To use it, hang the head of the spoke in the elongated hole and read the length of the scale. For crank split pins and ball bearings it works just like a gauge for drills.
