The Rotor Chain Catcher prevents the chain from dropping of the smallest chainring. With a relatively small investment you can prevent a lot of problems. In the corridors this item is called an 'anti-Schleckie' which obviously refers to the chain of Andy Schleck that came of the chain ring while shifting.
