Bone conduction with a powerful bass: Shokz launches the new Openrun Pro 2

4 September 2024

Shokz's new flagship model, the Openrun Pro 2, has just been launched. These headphones guarantee crystal-clear music without compromising on safety, with their combination of a "normal" air conduction speaker and a bone conduction speaker. You'll be able to tackle every adventure with these headphones, thanks to its 12-hour battery life, Quick-Charge function and comfortable fit!

Stay connected while listening to music

Thanks to Shokz's characteristic open-ear design, you'll stay connected to your environment even while enjoying your music. Plus, the Openrun Pro 2 is equipped with a lot of technology to push your listening experience to the next level. One such innovation is the new DualPitch technology, which means these headphones have two speakers: one for mid to high tones and one for bass. Shokz's distinctive Bone Conduction speaker transmits the mid to high tones. Plus, to make sure the bass in your music or podcast also sounds like it should sound, Shokz has to chosen to also integrate an air conduction speaker into their headphones. A clever algorithm then decides which speaker should play which sound. It'll turn listening to your music into a true experience!

Ready for your adventure

The Shokz Openrun Pro 2 is equipped with an improved battery, various new charging functions and a renewed charging port, so it's ready for any adventure. This headset has a battery that provides up to twelve hours of listening fun, and it'll last for up to ten days in standby mode. Plus, the battery can be fully charged within an hour. Need to get out the door fast just when the battery is empty? No problem! Thanks to the Quick Charge functionality, the battery will last for 2.5 hours after just five minutes of charging!

Plus, these headphones are equipped with a USB-C charging port. While you used to be dependent on a Shockz-specific magnetic charger, you can now charge it with the same cable as your phone, laptop or bike computer. All in all, you can confidently hit the road with these headphones: whatever you're going to do, you can count on the Shokz Openrun Pro 2.

Experience sound, forget earbuds

Shokz designed the Openrun 2 to be as comfortable as possible, so you can wear these headphones for hours with ease. The Shokz headphones actually consists of three parts: two "ear hooks" you'll clamp around your ears, and a sturdy titanium frame that connects these earhooks with each other. The ear hooks clamp around your ears with 16% less pressure than the previous version of the Openrun Pro, while still being suitable for every workout according to Shokz. Plus, these headphones are splash proof and weigh a mere thirty grams!

First impressions

Shokz tells a good story, but the most important question is whether these headphones also meet the expectations. During the first test, the wearing comfort of these headphones stood out immediately: you'll quickly forget you're wearing headphones, because you can barely feel them. We also really like the open-ear design. These headphones fit underneath a cycling helmet just fine, and won't get in the way of your cycling glasses. They stayed in place well during a four-hour endurance ride, without causing irritation or irregularities in sound quality. A true revelation in terms of comfort, clearly.

The sound quality of these headphones is also fairly good, especially for Bone Conduction headphones. You'll continue to hear your music well, even when commuting along a busy road. The bass also comes into its own thanks to the air conduction speaker with 96dB sensitivity, which is quite an improvement when compared to previous bone conduction models.

All in all, the new Shokz Openrun Pro 2 more than meets our expectations: these headphones are a great solution for any cyclist or athlete who wants to listen to music or podcasts without sacrificing any traffic safety. The Shokz are available in two stylish colours, and in two different sizes. There's something for everyone!

When I was introduced to cycling a few years ago, I was immediately hooked. There are so many different ways to enjoy cycling, from leisurely rides and adventures to tough climbs and races. I do a lot of cycling myself, both road and mountain biking. In addition to commuting to work, I also do touring and training rides. In the future I hope to do a lot of trips abroad!
