Meet the new Shimano Dura-Ace R9370 wheels! This is Shimano's top series for the road bike, developed together with WorldTour teams and pro triathletes, and the promise is simple: faster than ever, with the ideal balance between stiffness, low weight and aerodynamics.

What makes this series so special is that there isn't one single best wheel. There are five variants, each with its own character: from the light climber to a rock-solid closed time trial wheel. They all share the same clever tech, like carbon spokes, tubeless-ready rims and Shimano's well-known cup-and-cone hubs. And good news about those cup-and-cone bearings: they're now fully replaceable. Where you could previously only replace the cone and the ball bearings, this series lets you replace the cup too.

Dura-Ace C36: the light climbing wheel of the series

The Shimano WH-R9370-C36-TL is the climbing wheel of the Dura-Ace series: with a rim height of 36 mm and a set weight of just 1172 grams (523 g front, 649 g rear), this is the lightest wheelset of the five.

This set is made for uphill rides and for when your pace is constantly changing. Think mountain stages, hilly tours or that one local climb where you want to grab every second possible. With this set you don't have to worry about hauling any unnecessary weight up with you.

To reach that low weight without giving up responsiveness, Shimano uses a spoke pattern of 18 spokes at the front and 21 at the rear, combined with carbon spokes and a specially redesigned hub. That keeps the set stiff enough for direct, snappy acceleration, exactly what you want when you get out of the saddle.

Dura-Ace C50: the all-rounder for almost every ride

The Shimano WH-R9370-C50-TL is the all-round race wheelset of the series: a rim height of 50 mm and a set weight of 1302 grams (593 g front, 709 g rear) make this the wheelset that's good at everything.

Are you torn between climbing and flat, or do you just ride a bit of everything? Then this is probably the wheel you'll enjoy the most. The C50 is refined to bring low weight, stiffness and aerodynamics together at race speed, so you don't have to choose. Ideal for the Dutch terrain, for example!

From the very first design stage, this set was tested by top riders, with the goal of finding the perfect balance between low weight, stiffness and aero efficiency. The result is a wheel that gets up to speed quickly on the flat, but won't leave you hanging on a climb. The spoke pattern is the same front and rear (21/21), which adds to that balanced, predictable ride feel as well as providing extra stiffness.

The rim design is optimised per wheel in the wind tunnel, so the front wheel has an external width of 31.00 mm and the rear wheel 32.00 mm. That seems like a small difference, but it has a big impact on the aerodynamic performance and the stiffness of the rear wheel.

Dura-Ace C60: the aero wheels for speed and sprinting

The Shimano WH-R9370-C60-TL is the aero wheel of the series: with a rim height of 60 mm and a set weight of 1391 grams (632 g front, 759 g rear), this is the wheelset that's all about top speed.

This wheelset feels most at home during sprints and on long stretches of road where you want to keep the speed high. The deep 60 mm rim cuts down air resistance and helps you ride more efficiently once the speed climbs. According to Shimano this rim is 9% more aerodynamic than the previous model, the biggest aero gain within the series.

SInce you want to keep pushing hard and stay stable and secure at those speeds, the C60 wheels have got carbon spokes, a specific front and rear wheel design and a reinforced rear wheel. The spoke pattern (21 front, 24 rear) delivers reliable power transfer and calm behaviour under high load, even when you're going all out in the breakaway.

For this wheelset too, Shimano chose different widths for the front and rear wheel: 31.50 mm and 32.30 mm respectively.

Dura-Ace Disc: the rear wheel for maximum aero gain

The Shimano Dura-Ace Disc is the time trial and triathlon wheel of the series: a fully closed disc wheel of 987 grams, built for the very last bit of aero gain on flat, fast courses.

This rear wheel is meant for the specialist: the time trialist and the triathlete looking for every little advantage against the clock. A closed disc wheel slices through the air as efficiently as possible, which can save you precious seconds on a flat time trial.

Like the rest of the series, this wheel is designed with tyres of 28 to 30C in mind, so you can run modern, slightly wider tyres for extra comfort and grip. The aero optimisation is based on computer simulations and wind tunnel tests, not on gut feeling.

Dura-Ace C99: the deepest wheel for pure time trial speed

The Shimano Dura-Ace C99 is the deepest wheel of the series: with a rim height of 99 mm and a weight of just 788 grams, this is a real specialist aero wheel for time trials and triathlons. You best pair this front wheel with the disc mentioned earlier for optimal speed (Dura-Ace Disc).

Where the Disc is a closed disc wheel, the C99 keeps a spoked wheel with an extremely deep rim and a tight 16-spoke pattern. It's excellent as a front wheel in a time trial setup, or as a set on a course where a closed disc wheel would be too sensitive to crosswinds.

At 788 grams this is a surprisingly light wheel for such a deep rim. That's not only thanks to the renewed carbon construction, but also to the use of carbon spokes. The carbon spokes in this wheel are even a touch more aero than the Vonoa spokes in the C36, C50 and C60. You can already tell: nothing is left to chance, it's all about optimal performance. The C99 is tuned for tyres of 28 to 30C as well.
