Our choice for a road bike tyre with low rolling resistance
This is the ideal tyre for recreational or competitive cyclists. This fast road tyre performs incredibly well in both dry and wet conditions. The rubber compound gives maximum control in corners.

Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Continental Grand Prix 5000 road bike tyres are our fastest tyres with the best grip in all conditions.
  • The supple 330 TPI carcass gives you improved high-speed cornering stability.
  • The laser profile on the edge of the tyre gives you optimal grip on asphalt.
  • The Vectran anti-puncture strip provides additional puncture protection.
  • The Active Comfort layer absorbs shocks and dampens the vibrations from the road surface, without affecting rolling resistance.
  • A fast tyre will unfortunately wear out a bit faster.

Top tyre, whichever size you choose!

- Mathijs 21 February 2026

I have gone from 23mm to 28mm and now to 32mm over the past few years with this tyre. Same experience in all tyre widths, low rolling resistance and still plenty of grip. How do they do it anyway? At first I was afraid 32mm would be slower than 28mm, but I'm even faster! And it's really true what they say, that wider actually gives even less rolling resistance and also more comfortable! And another big advantage is how easy this tyre mounts. Other stiffer outer tubes are sometimes a real disaster to mount or change a tyre in cold weather, as the rubber becomes stiffer, but with this outer tyre, changing an inner tube is a snap!

Pros & Cons

comfortable
easy to mount
high grip

good tyre in all areas apart from the price, but I have fitted a tyre like this 4 times and in 3 of the 4 there was a kink in the seam of the tyre so that it was not completely true on the wheels

Pros & Cons

grip
expensive
fairly difficult to install but doable
