Power Meters

33

Power meters have more or less become commonplace on road bikes and mountain bikes. The great majority of cyclists are familiar with workouts geared to their heart rate or cadence data or performance time. For those who want an even more targeted training session a power meter is a great product, as it measures the power (wattage) you produce while cycling. Power Meters | Wide range for road bikes & MTBs

What is a power meter?

A power meter on your road bike or MTB gives you the opportunity to train in a targeted way and be in shape faster for that important race. Power is measured in wattage. Wattage is the amount of energy needed to cover a certain distance.

Why should I train on power?

Training based on speed or heart rate is a long-term process and sometimes asks a lot of your body. Sleep or your physical condition can also influence this. When you choose to train on power, you choose the fastest way to your ideal form. You listen carefully to your body and you will see results quickly. Of course, training with a heart rate monitor and a power meter is the very best option. However, training on power is the most efficient way to achieve performance. After all, power is independent of weather conditions, stress or the shape of the day. As a result, this value in wattage is always consistent and you can make rapid progress.

How do I install a power meter?

A power meter is very easy to install. Just remove the original crank arm, install the crank arm with power meter and connect it to your bike computer. The Stages power meters use both Bluetooth Smart and ANT+ and have a small deviation of only 2%, which pust them squarely in between the competitors.

What types of power meters are there?

You can install a power meter on your bike in different ways. The most common location for a powermeter is in the crank arm of the drive train. An equally precise way to measure your power is by buying special pedals that have the powermeter in them. You can also choose to place your power meter in the spider of your crank.

What are popular power meter brands?

Stages Cycling released one of the most affordable power meters in 2012. This meter was able to reach a larger target group than had ever before been achieved by the competition. Stages uses a built-in sensor in the left crank arm that measures deformation when power is transmitted to the pedal. Rotor is another brand of power meters. Rotor has been active in the power meter market for a number of years. With their InPower, 2inPower and Rex InPower crank sets, they are firmly established in the market. There are crank sets available for both road and mountain bikes. Rotor power meters measure power in the axle of the crank set. It is therefore not affected by temperature or other weather conditions.
