Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Aerothan MTB combines a very low weight (87 grams) with low rolling resistance.
  • The Aerothan MTB is entirely made of durable plastic, including the valve. As such, this inner tube is 100% recyclable.
  • Due to the elasticity of the material, the Aerothan MTB offers excellent protection against snake bites and damage from cuts.
  • Thanks to the Aerothan MTB's shape stability you can ride with low tyre pressure.
  • Note: The Aerothan MTB cannot be inflated outside the tyre (only up to 0.3 bar) due to the risk of deformations.
  • Only available with 40 mm valve length.

The best alternative to tubeless

- Daan 18 April 2025

I have been riding Aerothan tyres and their predecessors (EVO tubes made from Aerothan) for years. These newer Aerothan tyres are super lightweight (92 g for 29 inches instead of the specified 87 g). You can also ride with low pressure due to their shape retention and these tubes have low rolling resistance. In short, the best alternative to tubeless. Only disadvantage is that after 2-3 years or so, the inner valve comes out of the shaft and the valve is no longer reliable (leaks slightly). The tyre then needs replacing.

Pros & Cons

Low rolling resistance
Ride with low tension
Super lightweight
Unreliable valve after 2-3 years

Full plastic threads are light but not durable.

- Ben 14 January 2025

Unfortunately, this proved unsuccessful. Thread of the valve core did not stay in the valve after a few pumps. Probably the plastic threads are not as strong as those made of metal/alu.

Pros & Cons

All-plastic threads turn quickly.

Worthless

- Jan 18 November 2024

After 2 rides, the tyre was taken out and inflated, but the inner tube remained hard and went through a water tank, so there was no puncture.

All highly recommended

Aerothan hoses have an enormous weight advantage over conventional hoses, but are still very puncture-proof. A little tip on the weak point: I glue the plastic valve seat with Loctide, otherwise it sometimes leaks.

It's an alternative to tubeless. I used to have tubeless, but it's time-consuming and clogs everything up, especially the valve. That's why an Aerothane tube is the best alternative
