With the Garmin Edge 1040 Bike Navigation, you can explore the world and your own limits on a road, mountain or gravel bike. The large 3.5" colour touchscreen is easy to read in all conditions and is extremely responsive thanks to its new processor. With a battery life of 35 hours and turn-by-turn navigation, you will never again get lost, wherever you go! Do you want to make a detour and discover new roads during a preplanned route? No problem, the Edge navigates you back to the original route whenever you want. Because of the integration with Strava, Komoot and Trailforks, among others, a world of unknown routes and trails awaits you. Furthermore, the Edge 1040 has the possibility to create a route based on popular and frequently cycled routes or just a random route according to a specified distance.
Besides flawlessly navigating you from A to B, the Edge 1040 is the best training partner you can wish for. All the data you need during training or competition is displayed in real time on the customizable data fields. Trainings and workouts can be synced to your Edge 1040 from Garmin Connect or through Training Speaks. The Edge also offers daily training suggestions based on your training load and personal VO2 max. The Garmin ClimbPro function helps you to dose perfectly during a climb and MTB Dynamics gives you insight into your flow and jumps while cycling on the trails. Do you sometimes forget to eat and drink on the go? The Garmin Edge 1040 will notify you as you ride so you'll always be well-fed and well-hydrated.
Navigation
Pre-installed cycling maps mean your navigation will always work and you'll never go wrong again. Turn-by-turn navigation gives you clear directions. You'll even get a warning if there's an unexpected sharp turn ahead. What a safe idea! It is possible to let the Garmin calculate a route, but you can also load existing .gpx routes easily via the Garmin Connect app.
Extra long battery life.
You don't have to worry about the battery life. With the improved battery life of 35 hours, you can ride for miles before you have to go home and recharge your Garmin Edge 1040. Is 35 hours not enough? The optional Garmin Charge Power Pack can be used to charge the Edge 1040 wirelessly on the go.
You'll be ready to go in minutes, instead of wasting time configuring settings. Besides loading pre-stored personalised ride profiles from your previous Edge, you will also be able to transfer ride types, sensors and the most popular setups from existing users.

Insane bike computer, very complete and high quality
Works mega easy, clear navigation, made several rides where I follow a training programme via FONDO on the Garmin Edge and navigate at the same time. In combination with cadence sensor and heart rate monitor a very comprehensive bike computer. Do believe the computer really comes into its own with the cadence sensor and heart rate monitor to get everything out of the computer. For example, your stamina, i.e. the range you achieve at a certain pace combined with heart rate, is incredibly valuable on longer rides, but then the Edge does need that extra data. Battery life is very long. Works super well with my Garmin fenix 7S watch and via Garmin Connect you can easily adjust and regulate everything. Sound of the edge is particularly loud and cannot be changed. However, I also have my iPhone on my racing bike and if Garmin Connect is on in the background on the iPhone, you can adjust the voice navigation and training messages there by turning up or down the sound of your phone... so you can control the beeps and voice messages present that way. The navigation itself is extremely accurate. It also warns of sharp turns or danger on the road. There are numerous workouts and training programmes available for download via Garmin. I still chose to do this via Fondo but this is sent to the Garmin edge at the press of a button. Ease of use really plays a key role with Garmin. The data you want to see while cycling is easy to select and arrange exactly how you want to see it... so with a single swipe you have the screen in front of you what you want to see and you easily swipe through the different screens. In terms of layout, it's mostly uncluttered and simple... exactly what you want from a bike computer... pixel quality of the screen is not necessarily comparable to smartphones but is of fine quality... especially now that the edge 1050 is on the market and the price of the 1040 has dropped I can absolutely recommend it. It's a hefty investment but an excellent addition to any cyclist's bike!

Navigation poorly visible
My old 1030 was getting a bit slow, so I switched to the 1040. Unfortunately, the 1040 has no 3D view when navigating. Only from a view from above. Then you look at a white arrow on a white background. Not clearly visible if you can quickly look at your screen. While it is set to "high contrast ". That's why I returned this 1040. The new 1050 is too expensive for me. I will wait for the Wahoo Elemnt Roam v3.
