Cortina E-U4 Transport RB7 ActiveLine MM Electric Bike

The popular Cortina E-U4 Transport family has a fantastic new member: a variant with a smooth, natural-feeling Bosch mid-drive motor.

Stylish design
Of course, this Cortina E-U4 Transport 7V RB electric bike has most of the same features as the other E-U4s. A robust frame, a stylish black colour and a sturdy front carrier are also found on this version and make the E-U4 perhaps the hippest electric bike on the market.

Frame, fork and wheels
The aluminium frame of this transport e-bike is super strong to allow you to put the front and rear luggage racks to good use. A rigid front fork has been added to ensure responsive handling. Do keep in mind though that luggage on the front rack affects the bike's steering somewhat. Because this bike has a very strong build, it is a hefty 30 kg even without the battery. So if you're looking to set speed records, this electric bike is not the most obvious choice. But it is stable, rugged and trendy; ideal characteristics for a city bike.

E-bike technology
The Bosch Active Line mid-drive motor delivers 40 Nm of torque, allowing you to ride smoothly on the flat even in a headwind. For hilly terrain, however, the bike is a bit too heavy and the motor is not really powerful enough. When buying this E-U4 bike you have a choice of 3 batteries with a realistic range between a generous 50 km (300 Wh) to just about 100 km (500 Wh). The less powerful batteries are especially suitable for short rides. For medium-distance rides we recommend the 500 Wh battery, partly due to the bike's high weight. It is perfect for your daily rides to school or work in a town nearby. As for the charger, you can choose between a 2A compact charger, which you can easily bring with you, and a 4A standard charger.

Shifting and braking
Low-maintenance components are important features of this electric bike. One of them is the reliable Bosch Active Line motor. Another one is the Nexus 7-speed hub, which offers a gear range of 244% for plenty of gearing options in the city and countryside. The roller brakes are not subject to much wear and tear either. Their braking performance is very reliable in all conditions but the braking force is a bit low for a heavy bike riding at the maximum allowed speed of 25 km/h. This is something to take into account, especially when you have just started using the bike.

Other parts
A transport bike such as the Cortina E-U4 Transport 7V RB e-bike can carry luggage on both the rear and front carriers. It is, therefore, important to be able to park the bike stably when fully loaded. Thanks to the double stand and the handlebar tilt lock you can do so. Furthermore, this bike comes well equipped with a bell, a closed chain guard and more such features. The comfortable saddle and relatively wide tyres ensure a comfortable ride.

Maintenance of the battery
If possible, charge your battery at room temperature. If temperatures outside drop below zero, we recommend removing the battery from the bike and storing it inside.
Do not store the battery empty. If you plan not to use your e-bike for some time, we recommend storing the battery at room temperature at a 60% charge level. Charge the battery every now and then (once a month) to ensure that it lasts as long as possible.

Maintenance of shifting parts and brakes
With the vulnerable parts well concealed, both the gear hub and the roller brakes are low-maintenance parts. If any problems with these parts should arise, we recommend having them examined by a bicycle mechanic. As for the chain on this E-U4, it is not likely to get dirty due to the closed chain guard but could do with a good cleaning and some lubrication every now and then.

Tyre pressure
Riding at the right tyre pressure is important. If you're riding at the wrong pressure, the tyre is more prone to punctures, wear, rim damage when the pressure is low, and uncomfortable handling. For most e-bikes, tyre pressure is between 3.5 and 6 bar. The recommended pressure for your tyres is printed on their sidewalls.
