The e-bike collection of 2024 is now available in our online bike store. We've seen an upward trend in e-bike use for years: in fact, more e-bikes than "regular" bikes are sold in the Netherlands. We at Mantel specialise in electric bikes, and we're seeing some new trends in the 2024 collection. We're pleased to introduce you to our most promising e-bikes, made by brands like Gazelle, Cortina, Pegasus, Batavus, Trek, Cube, Cannondale, Sensa and Koga, in this blog.

E-bike trends

Some of the 2023 e-bike trends are still clearly apparent in 2024 electric bikes. One of those trends is integration, which can be interpreted in various ways. First, it's becoming more and more common to integrate the battery and cables into the bike's frame. Secondly, the way mid-drive motors are integrated into e-bikes continues to improve, because manufacturers are paying more and more attention to the installation of the motor. This improves the stability of the frame, as well as the bike's handling.

Overview of 2024 e-bike trends:

• Lightweight materials and improved design: the use of carbon and aluminium for strong, lightweight e-bikes with improved motor, battery and cable integration

• Improved connectivity: integration of GPS, smart connectivity and apps for an improved riding experience and personalisation.

• Larger range of action: more powerful batteries and more efficient motors, for cycling long distances without stopping for a recharge.

• Specialised bike segments: e-bikes to meet specific needs, like urban cycling, commuting, cargo bikes, sports bikes and comfortable e-bikes.

• Sustainability and safety: a focus on environmentally friendly manufacturing, recycled materials, and improved safety systems.

The integration of external devices is also becoming more and more important. A lot of e-bike displays already have a USB port for charging your phone. But more and more often, manufacturers also offer apps you can use to connect your smartphone to your e-bike. These apps provide you with a wide range of features. For example, Shimano's E-Tube app allows you to update your e-bike's firmware, while also giving you the option of changing what's shown on your e-bike's display, and even allowing you to change the power output of various motor modes.

Another trend is the growing range of action, which is happening in parallel to the developments being made in battery production. Battery capacity continues to increase due to technological advancements. That makes it possible to make rides of more than 80 kilometres on a single charge! And if you want to use your e-bike for your daily commute, these larger batteries mean you won't have to charge it every day anymore.

Bosch Ebike Smart System 3 (BES3)

The trends mentioned above come together in what might be the most important development in terms of e-bikes as of yet: the Bosch eBike Smart System 3 (BES3). This system brings bikes to the next level. It consists of a number of new components. First and foremost, a larger battery: it's even possible to buy a 750 Wh battery. The motor is now more powerful, too: the new Performance CX provides an impressive 85 Nm of torque. The Bosch eBike Flow app is another useful element, which comes with handy features like theft protection and integration with external apps. Finally, there are the Kiox 300 display and LED Remote controls. This display is now easier to read and has more functionalities. It's controlled using the LED Remote control, which has all the necessary buttons and is now even easier to read thanks to the use of strong LEDs.

Nexus 5-gear hub

Another important development found in 2024 e-bike models is the Nexus 5-gear hub. This is the first hub gear made especially to suit the motor strength of new e-bikes, which continues to increase. That's why you usually find this hub gear on high-end e-bikes with strong motors. The Nexus 5-gear hub has a wider gear range than the well-known Nexus 7 hub, proving that more gears isn't always better!
