Garmin launches the new Garmin Edge 1050 bike computer
Two years after the launch of its predecessor, the Garmin Edge 1040, Garmin has launched the newest model from the complete and multi-faceted 1000-series of bike computers: the Garmin Edge 1050. For anyone who thought it couldn't get any better: with a number of innovative and interesting new features, the Edge is even more extensive than its predecessor. Curious about this new model's upgrades? Keep on reading!
Large, clear colour display and black design
Its predecessor was already known for its large colour display, but Garmin still saw some room for improvement. The 1050 still has a 3.5-inch colour display with touch screen functionality like its predecessor, but it has an improved resolution of 480x800 pixels, as compared to the Edge 1040's 282x470 pixels. The new LCD display produces clearer colours and improved readability under various light circumstances, even in direct sunlight. Your maps, route data and trainings will be visible even more clearly and with even more detail thanks to this higher resolution.
Speaker, bike bell and danger alerts
One of the most striking features of the Garmin Edge 1050 is the integrated speaker. This speaker enables you to receive clear audio alerts on the road, like navigation instructions and warnings about dangerous stretches of road. This feature is especially useful in busy traffic or on unknown terrain, where you might miss visual cues. To top it all off, the Edge 1050 has an integrated bike bell. That's why you won't have to install a bike bell on your handlebars, all while still being able to warn pedestrians and other cyclists with your Garmin bike computer!
Paying with Garmin Pay
The Edge 1050 doesn't just mean safety: it also means versatility. Another innovative addition to the Edge 1050 is the integration of Garmin Pay, which allows for contactless payment via your bike computer. Garmin Pay provides a safe, handy method of paying on the road without having to bring your wallet or smartphone. Whether you're taking a coffee break or making an emergency stop at a bike shop, with Garmin Pay you'll always have a payment method at hand.
Battery life and charging
With the renewed display and extensive functionality of the Edge 1050, its battery life is slightly shorter than that of its predecessor. But don't worry! With a 20 hour battery life during intense use and a 60 hour energy saving mode, the 1050 won't let you down. In contrast with the Edge 1040 series, there won't be a separate solar variant. You might have to charge the 1050 a little more often than the 1040, but the 1050 is still a reliable bike computer for both long bikepacking tours and intense training sessions. Plus, charging is now more efficient due to the quicker USB-C connector, compared to the 1050's predecessor. You'll be back on the road with a fully charged battery in the blink of an eye!
Is the Garmin Edge 1050 for me?
With its endless options to collect and display data, this brand new cycling computer is ideal for any cyclist who enjoys analysing their routes and wants to improve! You'll never be surprised by anything with its useful features, like stamina insights, food and hydration notifications and a ClimbPro function. You'll always know how to best divide your strength, or how your body reacts to training! Plus, the Edge 1050 contributes to your safety on the road with its clear navigation features, audio alerts, incident detection, livetrack and other clever innovations!
In the box
The Garmin Edge 1050 comes with a Flush Out-Front handlebar mount, as well as a standard handlebar mount which can be installed on your stem or head stem. You'll also find a tether, a USB-C charging cable and user manual in the box.

Mantel has allowed me to turn my hobby into my job. As a product analyst, I am always up to date with the latest trends in the cycling world.
