Shimano Ultegra R8170 C60 Disc Road Bike Wheels

The Shimano Ultegra R8170 C60 Disc wheels for disc brakes are very aerodynamic thanks to the high rim profile. They have a good balance between aerodynamics, stiffness and weight for a rim depth of 60 mm. The rim profile with an external rim width of 28 mm ensures that Ultegra C60 Disc wheels are not as wind sensitive as other wheels of the same rim height. The internal rim width allows the fitting of tyres with a width of 28 mm or wider. The spokes and spoke pattern have been reinforced to increase rigidity when accelerating. This makes the wheels about 9% stiffer than a Dura Ace 9170 C40 wheelset.

Riding characteristics
The Shimano Ultegra R8170 C60 Disc feels very direct and like one with your bike. You won't immediately notice that the wheels are actually 60 mm deep. This rim profile has an external rim width of 28 mm and an internal rim width of 21 mm, which means that 28 mm tyres fit the rim perfectly. The closer the tyre fits the rim, the lower the aerodynamic drag. The width of the U-shaped rim ensures less trouble with side wind, which is why rims are increasingly being shaped wider. This aerodynamic gain is achieved while maintaining other qualities like rigidity, comfort and control. More than 5 watts have been gained in aerodynamic efficiency compared to Shimano Dura Ace 9170 C40 TL wheels, and another watt compared to Shimano Dura Ace 9170 C60 TL wheels.

Stiffness
Shimano Ultegra R8170 disc wheels are the stiffest wheels in the Ultegra range and offer the most direct power transmission. This is partly due to the shorter spokes in combination with a higher rim. In addition, the rear wheel has a rapid engagement of the body when accelerating after a turn or when sprinting. The power transmission has increased in efficiency by 63% compared to previous series of Dura Ace wheels.
