Pros & Cons

  • Lightweight and cleverly designed aluminium frame that makes for fine handling.
  • Reliable Tiagra equipment with a large range to make this bike suitable for climbing as well.

Description

Description

The Cannondale Caad Optimo 2 is a sleek and versatile road bike with excellent handling for its class.

Good basis
Cannondale Caad Optimo 2's lightweight aluminium frame is beautifully finished with internal derailleur cable routing and a geometry geared towards speed. Add the full carbon fork, and this bike has a fast and lively character. But it is not only fast. Built-in flex zones in the rear frame offer additional comfort on rough roads, as does the full carbon fork. And the lugs on the frame make mounting mudguards and/or a luggage rack child's play, so the bike can also be used for fast commuting. You'll love how versatile it is.

Reliable Shimano Tiagra drivetrain
For the Caad Optimo 2, Cannondale have selected the Shimano Tiagra 2x10 drivetrain. It's very reliable and has a significant range thanks to the 11-32 cassette, which makes it very suitable for flat roads as well as challenging climbs. The Promax brakes provide plenty of stopping power on descents.

Reliable wheels and components
To top it all off, the Caad Optimo 2 has solid, reliable wheels, and the rest of the components match the bike well. Thus, on this bike you will cover many fast miles without a care in the world.

If you're looking for a fast and versatile road bike, the Cannondale Caad Optimo 2 should be high on your list.

Technology

Versatility options
Cleverly concealed rack and mudguard mounts make the Caad Optimo ideal for commuting and/or wet weather training.

Full carbon fork
Both fork legs and the steerer tube are fully carbon for low weight and high comfort. In addition, the steerer tube is tapered for extra steering precision.

Excellent entry-level model

- Mike 16 March 2022

There are cheaper bikes with these specifications (Tiagra), but on advice I opted for a well-known brand. I sit with my 188 cm in a sporty position on size 58. But this is not extreme. Long rides are doable, despite sitting more upright on other models. This model feels like a compromise between sporty & endurance posture. The rim brakes do a good job. Even when it rains there is nothing to complain about. With mud it is probably a different story, but that is not what this bike is made for. More and more bikes nowadays are equipped with disc brakes. I want to believe that this brakes better, but the "old-fashioned" rim brakes still do their job. Another advantage is that rim brakes are easier to maintain for me as an amateur bike mechanic. Climbing with this bike is also doable. The only shortcoming I can really report are the tires. They are fine in themselves, I will also keep using them until they are flat or worn out. But occasionally I doubt the amount of grip. That still gives less confidence at higher speeds and descents.

Pros & Cons

Comfortable riding position
Perfect beginner's bike
Rim brakes
Rock solid
Slightly more expensive than average
Tires
