Our choice for a biodegradable wax
Our choice for a biodegradable wax, proven by our own experience. It protects your chain for a long time, reduces wear and ensures a clean drivetrain without harmful chemicals. For the best results: apply this wax to a clean chain and allow it to dry completely.
Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- Wax makes sure you'll always have excellent lubrication, a silent chain and the lowest possible amount of friction, as long as you apply it regularly.
- Chain wax hardens after application, so it'll gather less dirt than a chain wax.
- Your chain and gears will last longer if you use wax!
- The use of biodegradable wax is better for the environment than traditional chain oils!
- You'll have to completely degrease your chain the first time you apply the wax, to make sure your wax works well.

Wax your chain with our own Mantel Bio Chain Wax! This 100% biodegradable wax decreases the friction on your chain. Plus, this wax is especially designed to work in all weather conditions. Your chain will be well-lubricated, even in bad weather, and dirt won't accumulate between the links. Plus, this chain wax will make sure your drivetrain runs smoothly, too. You won't be bothered by annoying creaks and squeaks in your drivetrain anymore, once you've waxed your chain!
Benefits of wax
Mantel Bio Chain Wax isn't a chain oil: it's a chain wax. Wax is thicker than oil and hardens after you apply it, so it'll form a sturdy, protective layer that doesn't gather dirt. This reduces your drivetrain's friction, so you'll bike faster with the same amount of effort. In contrast with liquid chain oil, which gathers dirt and dust, this wax will keep your drivetrain clean and well lubricated. Ideal for mountain bikes, gravel bikes and road bikes, but this wax is also suitable for city bikes and e-bikes!

How to wax your chain for the first time:
Step 1: Clean your chain with a suitable degreaser, like the Mantel Drivetrain Cleaner. Make sure your chain is completely free of dirt and grease.
Step 2: Allow your chain to dry fully before you continue to step 3.
Step 3: Apply Mantel Chain Wax by dripping one drop of wax per link into the inner part of the chain. While doing this, move your chain by turning your pedals with your hands, in the opposite direction of the one you would cycle in. This makes sure the wax is distributed well.
Step 4: Allow the applied wax to harden completely, and repeat the process starting from step 3.
Step 5: Allow the second layer of wax to harden completely, too, before getting on your bike!
The next steps
If you've applied this wax, you won't have to clean your chain entirely before reapplying wax. Simply wipe the chain down with a dry cloth and apply a new layer of wax. How often you'll have to do this depends on the weather conditions in which you use your bike. As a rule of thumb: reapply wax to your road bike's chain after every 200 kilometres, and reapply wax to your mountain bike's chain after every 100 kilometres.
