The BMC Sportelite is the answer to a question many people ask when they've decided to voluntarily contract the virus that is cycling: which mountain bike is suitable for a new rider like myself to start my off-road adventures with? Let's face it, a company like BMC sets a slightly different standard for basic mountain bikes than most other companies do.
BMC has all the technology used in their top-end and pro bikes at their disposal, but now they've used some of that technology to create bikes you and I can actually afford! The BMC Sportelite's foundation is a state of the art triple butted aluminium frame. Triple butted refers to the 3 different thicknesses used in a single tube of aluminium. As it nears a junction, the tube becomes progressively thicker. This creates a frame with thick, strong tubes at the joints and lightweight, thinner tubes in the middle, thus reducing the overall weight of the bike. Whoever said starter bikes are low-tech?!
BMC has you in mind!
The BMC Sportelite has a comfortable geometry. This means you won't be fully stretched out on the bike, but not quite as upright as you would be on a regular bike either. This comfort is further enhanced by the 27.5 inch wheels, which are 1 size smaller than the big 29ers. This lowers the overall height of the bike, making it easier to climb on or off the bike, rather than making it feel like you're mounting a horse every time you get on. Many riders who go straight for a 29er soon find themselves looking at a 27.5 bike. The BMC Sportelite, with its slightly smaller wheels, is a perfect transition from riding around town to trashing your local trails.
Shimano Deore and SLX components
The BMC Sportelite uses Shimano drive train components from the Deore and SLX tiers. These parts are an excellent addition to an already awesome bike, and mean you won't have to worry about the reliability or durability of your drivetrain. Shimano stands for top of the line performance for decades now. From now on, shifting and braking is done with your fingertips rather than having to use your entire hand!
