With the introduction of the 29er and the 27.5 the is also a demand for a triple crankset with a lighter gear ratio. Due to the larger circumference of the wheels, the 29er covers 11% more distance. This means that the gears also feel 11% heavier. For this reason it can be that a 22 inner chainring is not enough, or a 44t outer chainring to large. Just because of this shimano has developed a new crankset with a ratio of 40-30-20.

The XT M782 uses just like other cranksets out of the series the Hollowtech II construction. Wherein the hollow shaft with a widely spaced bearing ensures for enough stiffness, rigidity and that the crank is lightweight.
