Flat pedals are for those who do not want to be clipped in but do want to have as much grip as possible and to be able to put their foot on the ground easily. For those who want the best of both worlds, Shimano offers SPD Combination Pedals. These mountain bike pedals can be used with and without clipping in.
Which cleats come with my MTB pedals?
Shimano SPD pedals come with Shimano SM-SH51 SPD cleats with 0 degrees of float. Crankbrothers MTB pedals come with Premium cleats with 15 degrees of float. Time MTB pedals come with Time Atac cleats with 13/17 degrees of float. Look MTB pedals come with Look X-Track cleats with 6 degrees of float.
