Description

Description

The Garmin Rally XC power meter is an extremely accurate one for the avid offroad rider and suitable for Shimano SPD pedals. With the Garmin Rally XC you have all the advanced power data at your disposal, even if you cycle on the road, in the forest or on gravel roads. The focus of the Rally XC is on accurate measurements and very high robustness. The Garmin Rally XC powermeter has been tested in such a way that Garmin can guarantee a very high quality. Furthermore, because the measurement is in the axis of the pedal, you only need to detach your pedals and transfer them to another bike: you can therefore easily transfer your pedals from your MTB to your gravel bike. Conclusion: you never have to cycle without a power meter again!

Accurate measurement and advanced data
You expect a powermeter to have extremely accurate readings and the Garmin Rally XC is certainly no exception. With an accuracy of around 99% (and a deviation of around 1%), you'll get a very reliable reading. Your cadence is also measured as standard.

Difference between single- and double sided measurement
With the single-sided measurement, your power is measured only in your left pedal. This value is doubled, which is an indication of your total power. With the double-sided pedals, your power is measured in both your left and right pedal, making the power values more accurate and giving you extra data. For example, your power output while sitting or standing is mapped out and compared with each other. And by means of the power phase, you can see where you deliver the most power on your pedals. In addition, the Platform Center Offset (PCO) measurement shows how you distribute your power across your pedals. Finally, the left-right balance gives you an insight into the distribution of power between your two legs. In short, the double-sided versions provide advanced cycling dynamics to show you how you produce your power and where you could still improve.

Full integration with the Garmin Eco System
A Garmin is not a Garmin if it is not fully integrated with the Garmin Ecosystem. For easy data analysis, software or setting updates, the Rally XC is therefore easily connected to a Garmin sports watch, Edge bike computers, Garmin heart sensors and the Garmin Connect app. This seamless integration also makes it possible to receive sports advice, training sessions, tips and workouts based on data from the Rally XC. Subsequently, you can also directly post all your data on a platform of your choice, such as Strava. Of course, the Rally XC also works with indoor training apps like Zwift, and thanks to Bluetooth and ANT+ you can also connect to sports devices from other brands. In short, the Garmin Rally XC completes your efficiency in sports.

Battery life
The Garmin Rally XC has no internal battery, but uses button cell batteries. The downside is that you'll need to change them every now and then. Luckily, the battery lasts up to 120 hours, which is a lot longer than most internal batteries in powermeter pedals. Also, the battery cover and threads are made of metal, not plastic, which greatly improves the Rally's durability and robustness compared to the Vector.

Already cycled several times with this Power Meter. Pairing with my watch was easy. There is a lot of data available with this power meter such as average power per lap, maximum power delivered, time cycled in the different power classes and your VO2 Max. All in all, a nice tool to train more effectively.

Easy installation
Easy to pair with Garmin watch

At first I was afraid it wouldn't work with my Polar Vantage, or would give wrong values, but it works fine.

you get what you pay for

- Laurens 25 August 2022

First time Garmin product, pricey but quality. Very easy installation, even for a layman. I already have a left crank on my road bike but this is much easier, even to e.g. go on vacation, just take pedals instead of the MTB and rent one there, easier than e.g. with a crank-based power system. For an amateur without a pre-existing pathological left-right leg difference, a left-sided only system is more than enough. I did pedal sensitively higher wattages than on my road bike or on zwift, which suggests to me that the calibration is anything but top notch out-of-the-box. Easier to pair with the app, even for a Wahoo user. So far only done 50 km with it so have yet to see what the future will offer. Snap in perfectly with my shimano SPD shoes.
