The 2023 e-bike collection is available from our online bike shop. The use of e-bikes has been growing steadily for years. In the Netherlands, electric city bikes have even outsold 'normal' city bikes. At Mantel, we have been specialising in electric bikes for a while now, and with the 2023 e-bike collection we see some trends emerging. In this blog we introduce you to our most promising e-bikes from brands such as Gazelle, Cortina, Batavus, Trek, Cube, Cannondale and Koga.

E-bike trends 2023

Some of the trends we saw in the 2022 collection carried over into the 2023 e-bike collection. First of all, we have "integration". Integration can be interpreted in a number of ways. The first is that the battery and cables are often integrated into the frame. The mid-drive motor is also more and more integrated into the e-bike's frame . Manufacturers are paying more and more attention to the positioning of the motor because it improves the stability of the frame and the bike's riding characteristics.

Moreover, connectivity to external devices is also becoming increasingly popular. Many e-bikes already have a USB port to charge your phone. Manufacturers even offer apps that allow you to connect your e-bike to your phone. These give you a range of features. For example, Shimano's E-Tube app not only lets you update your e-bike's firmware, but also customise the layout of your display and even change the motor's power output at certain assistance levels.

Another e-bikes trend is towards e-bikes with a longer range. This goes hand in hand with the development of batteries. Thanks to advanced technology, their capacity is increasing. As a result, it is now possible to go more than 80 kilometres on a single charge. And if you want to use your electric bike for your daily commute, you no longer need to recharge the larger batteries every day.

Bosch e-Bike Smart System 3 (BES3)

These trends come together in perhaps the most significant innovation in the world of e-bikes: the Bosch e-Bike Smart System 3 (BES3). This system takes cycling to a whole new level and consists of a number of new components. Firstly, the batteries are becoming more powerful; it is now even possible to equip a bike with a 750 Wh battery. The motor is also more powerful: the new Performance CX motor has a torque of up to 85 Nm. Another useful component is the Bosch e-Bike Flow app. An app with useful functions such as anti-theft protection and the ability to link to external apps. Finally, the system comes with the Kiox 300 display and LED remote control. This display is easier to read and has more functions. The display is supplied with the LED remote control, which contains all the system's buttons. The buttons are illuminated by LEDs, making them easier to read in the dark.

Nexus 5 speed hub gear

Another notable advancement on 2022 models is the Nexus 5 gear hub. This is the first hub specifically designed to handle the torque of increasingly powerful e-bike motors. The Nexus 5 hub has a wider gear range than the familiar Nexus 7 hub. This development shows that having more gears does not always equal better performance!

Cortina E-U4 Family RB7 ActiveLine MM
