Reynolds - Some of the most Aero Wheels

7 September 2016

If you’re someone who dreams of owning a fantastic set of wheels, then you’re bound to have looked at the fantastic examples produced by Reynolds at some point. Reynolds is a special brand with a unique look and feel. Something you see instantly when you first set eyes on a pair of their wheels. Everything just looks sleek and well thought out. The Aero-range is particularly striking because of its distinct V-shape. Most manufacturers are moving more towards round U-shapes, but Reynolds has stuck to the traditional V. They claim this radically reduces sensitivity to wind from the side. This means they’re more aerodynamic than other wheels at sharp wind angles. Further aiding both aerodynamics and looks are the internally placed nipples. Speaking of looks, that's something Reynolds have truly nailed. Let's face it: who wouldn’t want to be seen with a set of wheels which look like this!?

DET and SLG?

Reynolds is proud of the fact that they develop a lot of technology in-house and do their own wind tunnel testing. The results of this hard work show in the wheels we’ve selected for our range. “DET” is short for Dispersive Effect Termination, and like “SLG” (Swirl Lip Generator) is an invention by Reynolds. DET is something rather unique for V-shaped rims. The combination of the wide 26.2 mm wide rim and its tapered V-shape ensures minimal drag and is told to produce forward acceleration. You read that right- produce forward acceleration...

SLG is only available on the U-shaped rims of the Assault 41’s. A 0.9 mm “lip” creates a much smoother airflow over the wheel. Over a distance of 40 kilometers, this can save you 12.5 seconds.

Wheelsets with Varying Depths

The complete Aero-range features the excellent DT Swiss 240s hubs. Naturally, the wheels are available in various depths: 46, 58, 72, and 90 mm. This allows anyone to find the right depth for their particular needs. In order to further help you out, we also offer the wheels in the Aero range with uneven depths: a lower front wheel which decreases your bike’s sensitivity to wind, and a deeper and more rigid rear wheel offering better aerodynamics. An advantage to the Assault 41 is that they’re tubeless ready.

Reynolds Wheels deserve Reynolds Blue Brake Pads

If you buy yourself a new set of wheels, you can assume they come with a decent set of pads. Fortunately, every Reynolds wheelset comes with some nice blue brake pads: the Reynolds Blue Cryo Carbon brake pads. These pads are also sold separately in our webshop. So if you’re in the market for a new set of wheels to properly end the season on, why not order yourself a shiny set of Reynolds wheels!

You can find me on a bicycle almost every day. I commute each day from my house to work and back. Often on my road bike, and during the winter on an old crosser. And if that isn't enough, you can find me on my bike during most weekends too. On my trusty road bike or my mountainbike. And if you can't find me outdoors riding my bike, odds are I might be riding on Zwift
