Nothing beats a fixed wedge... if you take the time to be precise.

- Robert, 10 June, 2021

Having recently switched to Time Xpro 10s, I thought I'd give the included 5° shims a try... I hated them! It felt like I was never properly clipped in, my foot was moving all over the place, and I felt like my feet were 'disconnected' from the bike. So after a short first ride, I bought these fixed spacers. I immediately appreciated the difference. The foot is held firmly in place, you can feel the bike, the connection is total. As they are fixed wedges, they require much more precise positioning than movable wedges. It took me 4 tries per foot to position them perfectly. 1° difference and you feel it in your knees! It's important not to feel any torsional stress in the knee and ankle, otherwise you risk injury in the long term. As a result, you soon realise during installation that the screws and bolts aren't designed for such precision. It's fine for mobile wedges, but for fixed ones, it's a bit flimsy. There's too much play in the shim guides and screw heads. The same goes for the rectangular washer, which is supposed to indicate the inclination - too much play with the screw! I'd recommend marking the front and back of the wedge (and the shoe) with a white pencil to adjust the inclination more precisely. If you have to do this several times (which is most likely), you'll also notice that the plastic is a bit soft. When you tighten the wedge (to the torque indicated), the screw heads 'mark' the rail, making fine repositioning complicated because when you tighten them, the screws will try to 'fall back' into the previous footprint. Apart from that, no defects. Once in place, the wedge doesn't move. Supplied with a small strip that can be glued under the wedge if the shoe is very curved. The thickness of the supports provides a good margin against wear. However, avoid walking on coarse gravel or uneven ground, as this could leave dents on the metal hook and wear it out prematurely.

Pros & Cons

Good feedback
Good maintenance
Precise positioning
Screws would benefit from greater precision
Soft plastic (marks quickly)
