Super device for the bikepacker as well as the most avid rider who wants to see all the details.
Got this in preparation for a road trip to Rome (2200Km+) What could be better than the 1040 solar, Big screen, europe on it completely, and solar because you may not be able to charge everywhere. So the extra hours you can charge on the road are ideal. Especially if you get to points or somewhere you quickly charge your phone, your lights and/or your bike computer. Strava routes can be loaded with ease and are picked up perfectly. I tested this with some small local routes and it works perfectly. Transferring the sensors also went smoothly. As far as I'm concerned, the ideal device for the next few years.

It's amazing how fast it goes and the new interface is much better, fast and intuitive and with the solar charging it gives an extra autonomy.

Great bike computer
Coming from the Edge 1030+. With the Edge 1040, everything functions significantly faster and all the widgets etc are more nicely designed and comprehensive. Life Stamina is also very nice to see/follow. Lots of overviews available after cycling. Too bad there are so few apps available in the IQ store right now, like My Edge 2 for example, that's just a matter of time.
