Excellent wheelset at a good price

- James, 17 July, 2017

Solid wheelset, well made. Very easy to fit my Veloflex clinchers. Freehub not to noisy. All in all they punch well above there weight.

Very Good for the Right Price

- Justin, 11 April, 2017

If I had written this review after about 200 miles, the score would have been about 6 out of 10 due to the Preloaded Reduction Assembly (PRA) system. As it is, they just about merit an 8. The problem with the PRA is that it is fiddly. It is designed to allow for the smooth rolling of the wheel without lateral play. Mavic have a similar system, but the Mavic one works perfectly. Vision’s works superbly on the front wheel, probably because it is adjusted on both sides. The rear wheel is adjusted on the non-drive side only, and that seems to limit its effectiveness. For the first two hundred miles I would return from a ride and there would be lateral play. I eventually solved this by adjusting the PRA whilst the wheel was fitted (the online instructions say do it out of the bike). For this, place the bike on the floor, release the QR skewer and then adjust the PRA. This seems to have mostly resolved the problem, although there was some very small play after my most recent outing, but I have done over 500 miles since the last adjustment, so I don’t mind that too much. Other than that, these are very good wheels. Sturdy (you can tell they are hand built), smooth, quiet and strong. There is no flex under load whilst climbing, and they are not that susceptible to crosswinds, certainly no more than you would expect for deeper section wheels. The price is possibly an issue, so it depends on how much you pay for them. At full price they are too expensive for a bike up to the £1500 (€1760) mark; and for a top of the range bike you would probably be looking elsewhere. But if you can get them around the £500 (€580) mark, then they are worth it. Just be prepared to do some fiddling with that PRA.

Ordered the wheelset Monday evening and received them in Denmark on Wednesday morning! Splendid - and no trouble on the way or during the expedition. Felt secure that my order was handled quickly and correctly since I was updated on email and sms along the way. Totally recommend this site - and the wheels are great too!! :o)

So good I want some more!

- Michael, 21 April, 2016

First set of "deep" wheels having ridden/raced on Reflex and CXP33s since returning to cycling. They look good fitted to my bike (old-school skinny-tubed 853), anything deeper would look wrong. Anything wider wouldn't fit. Love the fact the spokes are silver too. I was a bit concerned the low spoke count would make them soft but they ride very well (Veloflex tyres and latex tubes help) and they do seem quicker than my old (fashioned) wheels. Early season TT results seem to confirm it. Really pleased with them. And the service from Mantel was great, easily as good as the service from the other well-known UK e-tailers I also use.

Pros & Cons

do seem to make you faster
narrower rim suits my bike
quality and looks
I want another pair!
