Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- Integration of the power meter unit into the DUB bottom bracket excellently protects the fragile electronics from water and splashing dirt.
- The replaceable AAA lithium battery delivers an impressive life of more than 400 hours, allowing you to cycle an entire season without power failure.
- X-SYNC technology with alternating wide and narrow teeth keeps the chain securely in place and prevents it from coming off on rough terrain.
- AXS system integration offers the convenient option of pairing with a mobile app to carry out firmware updates and check battery status.
- Single-sided power measurement only records data from the left side. That said, this method uses highly reliable calculations to provide accurate overall data of your power output.

The SRAM Quarq Rival XPLR E1 power meter combines a lightweight aluminium construction with highly accurate data recording from the bottom bracket. The redesigned stiff chainring and flawless chain control allow for direct power transfer, and with just a bit more weight than that of a standard crankset, this power meter ensures that your bike's handling and acceleration remain optimal.
Material and construction
The redesigned aluminium crank arms form the backbone of this crankset; SRAM has removed any unnecessary material to reduce weight, which results in a lighter setup without compromising on structural rigidity. The power meter unit is elegantly concealed inside the DUB bottom bracket, where the sensitive electronics are well protected from impacts and splashing dirt. On the drive side is a light and stiff aluminium chainring with Direct Mount attachment. This seamless connection between chainring and crank results in highly efficient power transfer: every pedal stroke is instantly converted into forward speed on the (gravel) road.

Finishes and functionality
Besides its robust core, this power meter includes several clever finishing details. The chainring features SRAM's X-SYNC technology that alternates narrow and wide teeth with tall, square edges. This tooth profile engages the chain faster than one with traditional teeth shapes. An X-SYNC chainring also has mud-clearing recesses to efficiently dissipate dirt, resulting in excellent chain retention. In total, the system is less than 40 grams heavier than a standard crankset, and for power it uses a replaceable AAA lithium battery that will run for over 400 hours per season, quite impressive! The construction has an IPX7 water-resistance rating, which means that the system can work flawlessly for 30 minutes when submerged in water up to one metre deep - so you will never have to worry about it on muddy rides. Moreover, AXS integration allows you to easily manage the system's firmware and track battery status.
1x Drivetrains
The Quarq Rival XPLR E1 is specifically designed for 1x drivetrains and works with 12- and 13-speed configurations using Road Flattop D1 and E1 chains. It requires a SRAM Road WIDE DUB bottom bracket for a wide chainline (47.5 mm) that works perfectly with Full Mount rear derailleurs.
