Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Scope R4 Disc wheelset is very all-round thanks to its 45mm deep rim and low weight of 1569 grams.
- Thanks to the Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics technology, the rim is optimised to achieve the optimal and most aerodynamic rim profile.
- The Diamond Ratchet Body system is extremely light and ensures that the power delivered is transferred to the wheel even faster.
- Riding tubeless has many advantages: more comfort, lower rolling resistance and better puncture resistance.
- Scope wheels are developed in the Netherlands in cooperation with Schwalbe, SKF, TU Eindhoven and TU Delft, so high quality is guaranteed.
- No wheel bags or brake discs are included when buying a wheelset.
- A body for Sram XDR, Campagnolo or Campagnolo N3W is available separately.

The Scope R4 Disc wheelset is equipped with durable SKF bearings with good sealing and low rolling resistance. The Diamond Ratchet body system is a newly developed engagement system that ensures that the delivered power is transferred to the wheel even faster. The wheels are built on aerodynamic 45 mm deep rims with an external rim width of 28 mm. The pre-mounted tubeless rim tape and tubeless valves allow the R4 Disc wheels to be run tubeless. The wide rim in combination with a wider tubeless outer tyre provides greater comfort, lower rolling resistance and increased puncture resistance. The fact that there is no weight limit for the Scope R4 Disc wheels simply proves they are super sturdy. Scope underlines this with a 3-year warranty and a crash replacement program.
3 Year Warranty
Quality is Scope's number one priority. After registering your wheelset on their website within 30 days of purchase, you activate the 3-year warranty. When registering your wheelset it is necessary to mention the serial number. This can be found on the registration card provided, the wheel box or on the flange of the rear hub.
Lifetime Crash Replacement Programme
Despite its high quality, a Scope wheelset cannot always withstand the consequences of a severe crash. This is why Scope offers a crash replacement programme in addition to the 3-year guarantee. With this programme, Scope gives you the chance to replace the wheel after a crash at a reduced rate.
The rim profile of Scope wheels was developed using Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics (AEA) technology. This algorithm calculates the most aerodynamic rim profile to ensure optimum performance. For the previous generation of Scope wheels, countless hours were spent drawing hundreds of different rim profiles, which were then analysed using CFD in an attempt to find the optimal and most aerodynamic rim profile. This method of trial and error approaches the optimum rather than defining it. Together with Delft University of Technology (NL), an algorithm has been developed that defines the coordinates for the most aerodynamic rim profile. This unique innovation in aerodynamics is called Algorithm Enhanced Aerodynamics.
Hub system
The Scope hub system has been redeveloped. Proven features such as wide flange spacing (for high lateral stiffness), custom-made oversized (6803/6903) SKF bearings and the tool-free adapter system have remained and have only been refined where possible. In addition to the SKF bearings, CeramicSpeed bearings remain available as an upgrade for the Race series.
Diamond Ratchet Body System
The Diamond Ratchet body system is a newly developed engagement system which ensures that the power delivered is transferred to the wheel even faster. The standard 36T ratchet ring can be exchanged for a 48T ring for an even quicker engagement. Compatible with all groupsets: Shimano, Shimano Micro Spline, Sram XDR, Campagnolo and Campagnolo N3W.
Tubeless system
The geometry of the unique Scope Tubeless System allows for easy fitting, instant inflation, long-lasting pressure and compatibility with all (tubeless) tyres.
Local Reinforcement
With the Local Reinforcement carbon technology the number of carbon layers around the spoke holes on the inside of the rim has been increased. In this way the weight is significantly reduced while maintaining strength and rigidity.
• Tubeless rim tape (pre-installed)
• Tubeless valves (pre-installed)
• 10 speed cassette spacer
• Warranty registration card
• (possibly a torque wrench)
Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette remover with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or Sram cassette on your rear wheel. Please note! For a Campagnolo cassette you need the Campagnolo tool. If you have a Shimano 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the body. Then you place the cassette on the body. This can only be done in one way because of the fit of the body. Finally you turn the washer straight on by hand and tighten it with the cassette tool. Cassettes aren’t easily overtightened, but if you want you can use a torque wrench for this.

Very good choice in terms of quality and price.
Bought this set of rims as an upgrade for my road bike. They come with tubeless valves and rim tape fitted. I decided to fit tubeless tyres straight away (Schwalbe pro one) and this was a very easy job. I could just get the tyres around the rim with my bare hands. A disadvantage I did find was that there was no tool included to unscrew the tubeless valves (so you can easily drain the fluid through the valve). The looks and finish of these rims are fine. After registration with Scope, three-year warranty! The handling is good. They handlebars directly and are stiff enough (I'm a bit heavier at 90 kg). The high rim flange gives little/no sensitivity in side winds. Recently rode in the polder with wind force 4/5 from the side but this went fine. The freewheel of the hub is nicely present, I almost don't have to dial when I want to overtake on the cycle path. Just holding the legs still is enough. ;-) If you really go climbing a lot you might want to fit different rims. Guess they are built a bit too heavy for the Ventoux.

Very good all-round wheelset, aero and lightweight
Wheels mounted on a canyon aeroad to replace the original DT SWISS which were 62mm high, in order to be more versatile on the way up and down and to stay aero on the flat, I find that the scopes are a good compromise between aero and lightness, I recommend them at this price, The wheels were sent quickly and were well protected in a cardboard box, please note that you need to use the 1mm spacer supplied to avoid play in the cassette if you have a Shimano 11-speed Ultegra (it was indicated that it should only be used on a 10-speed cassette).

Truly fantastic, should have done it much earlier
Since fitting this wheelset, my bike not only looks faster.... It is actually faster. It honestly feels like I'm riding a completely new bike. Fantastic. This is my first carbon wheelset and I am hugely excited about it. I have heard many times from bike mates and experts that a carbon wheelset is perhaps the best upgrade you can do to your bike. This turns out to be absolutely true. My choice fell on this set because of the price and because it is a Dutch brand. The wheels handlebars are sharp and combined with tubeless Continental Grand Prix tyres they also provide extra comfort. Kudos to the staff at Mantel Den Bosch for their good advice and help with fitting after purchase. Top service, I am happy to make a detour for that.
