Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxTerra EXO+ TR

Best all around mtb tire, for trails to racers, It’s perfect
The perfect all around mtb tire. Do keep in mind that this tire is for a rim of > 30. 2.5 is a wt. You can put it on smaller rims also but the profile will be more round and if will be more difficult to get the tire to go in the beat although it will be just fine and I did it many times in the past.

Good downhill and enduro tire
Perfect tire to use as a front tire with, for example, a Minion DHRII as a rear tire. Has phenomenal grip and is therefore good to use in bikeparks for example. Only because of the coarse profile it has a high rolling resistance, so it might not be the ideal tire for your standard forest tour in the Netherlands.

Good downhill tires
Negative point the output, but so much the banana in the descent that it largely compensates for the output!!!!

Super Tires
I drive the tire for several years as a front tire. Whether snow, wet or dry the tire is perfect in all situations, Black Forest and Alpine trails.

Best tyre I have ever driven!
Converted to tubless and worked perfectly the first time. Top driving characteristics, i.e. grip and rolling resistance.

Good front tyre on dry and stone.... Bad for mud

My favourite new front tyre.
Love these tyres on my bike park Enduro.. Been running Minions for ever, though I'd give these a try. Love the Assigai on the front with a faster rolling rear like the aggressor. They lean over extremely smooth with no DHF vagueness.

Good all-round tyre with a markdown in real mud.
This is an additional review to that of 18 Oct 2021. I spent an extended weekend (5 rides) in Spa. The day before the first ride, it had rained all day in Spa (Belgium). All the trails were wet/damp for the next few days. The tyre did not disappoint me. The grip was good on all surfaces in Spa (forest, rock, gravel). The tread remained clean, grip on roots was very good. I rode the new trails in Spa and this went super. But the mud in Spa is not the same mud as in Hulst (the Netherlands) I rode a fixed MTB route there. In some places, the mud stuck in the tread. Resulting in no more grip. So this confirms that the Assegai is not a mud tyre.

Super tyre that feels reliable and is fun in the corners.
I purchased the EXO+ MaxxTerra for my eMTB Niner RIP E9. The tyre mounts very easily. I chose the EXO+ because an eMTB weighs more and the EXO+ has reinforced sidewalls so the tyre pressure does not have to be as high. This tyre replaces Maxxis' High Roller 2, which was fitted at the front. The High Roller 2 is a good tyre but you have to enter corners aggressively to use the side knobs. The Assegai is a lot better in that respect. You have to use less force to run the tyre on its studs. This is because there are transition studs between the tread and the studs. The downside is that the mud is unlikely to release immediately. I cannot confirm that problem yet because I have not yet ridden in real muddy conditions. I have ridden on forest soils (dry-humid), sandy soils and gravel. The grip on roots is very good. In all these rides, this tyre has given a reliable feel. The tyre runs stably on descents. I have now ordered a second Assegai EXO+ to replace the Maxxis Aggressor which is at the back. I will test this combination extensively in Spa (Belgium) during an extended weekend with the MTB school. I will also share my experiences with this set.

Top all-rounder with enorma grip.
Replaced my dhf with these Assegai, still just more grip in the corners because there are more studs next to each other. Tubeless laid in no time.
