Garmin Edge 1040

Sufficient quality but too many nonsense features
All in all, this is a device I have been using for 5 months without any problems. The core functions work stably and I have yet to experience any crashes or connectivity issues. What works very nicely is that you can configure your own data screens. Pairing devices works easily and without problems. What can be very frustrating are the numerous nonsense functions, the absolute nadir being the stamina functionality. The various automatic functions to set heart rate and power zones are also best turned off. Detecting maximum heart rate just doesn't work at all. Detecting FTP already works better, but should not be adjusted every time based on a single ride. Without all the fuss, this device could be both less frustrating and cheaper.

A new way of riding with Garmin's Power Guide (Edge 1040 / 840 / 540)
Garmin's power guide has definitely changed the way I ride. I simply don't do a ride without this thing anymore. Power guide will analyze your planned course and segment it according to the profile (ascend / descend). For every segment and based on your FTP (that it calculates) and effort scale that you can adapt, it recommends a power output. You'll need a power meter though, which is an extra cost. The major downside in my opinion is Garmin lack of support for it's both lights used together (headlight Varia UT 800 and RTL 515) I own both and you cannot operate both individually. This is unless you download a Connect IQ app "Smart Bike Lamps".

A good accurate top cycling computer
Setup is super fast. The GPS is very accurate. You swipe quickly between pages (compared to the 1030). Costs a bit, of course, but the good battery and accuracy mean you have a hell of a bike computer. I am short of superlatives.

Beautiful product with many features.
Garmin Edge 1040 works even easier than the 1030. Very user-friendly, highly recommended!

Fast, efficient delivery for France
In the same vein as the 1040, but with better lighting, higher contrast and more advanced analysis functions... improved ergonomics when driving.

Highly recommended!
Just finished a four-day bikepacking event, and the Garmin Edge 1040 was a real buddy along the way. Also, the ease of mapping out a new route via Komoot on the iPhone and then passing it to the 1040 was easy. Once you know what to do, it's easy. During that 4-day, never had to recharge, and when I got home even had 51% left in the tank, which is exceptionally handsome, and reassuring for the Tuscany Trail next week.

Great bike computer with a nice large screen
As a navigation system the 1040 is a fine upgrade over the 530, as a training computer I would rather choose the 840.

Very complete bike computer.
A few weeks in use. A great bike computer that can really provide a lot of info while cycling. You can upload pre-made routes but also let the computer determine a route for you based on a distance. A very complete computer with lots of possibilities.

An excellent product with a host of technological advances that make it a must-have!
I switched from the Edge 830 to the Edge 1040 for, among other things, better visual comfort (eyesight declines with age). I'm very satisfied with this product, whose sturdiness inspires confidence, with the use of aluminum for the mounting base. Autonomy is up on the previous generation. Practical, robust USB-C connection. I'm also very pleased with the new multi-band GNSS receiver, which provides excellent accuracy in all conditions, especially in undergrowth, which is important.

Fine like all Garmins
Successor 1030 and works pretty much the same

More extensive and faster than ever, but takes some getting used to
Nice upgrade from the 830, many more features, especially in training support, new controls take some getting used to, but works well and comprehensive

Topper for bicycle nerds
Nice device with long battery life and many features. But: Very difficult to get everything out of the device. Menus are inscrutable and you have no idea what all you can and should set.

The best Garmin Edge so far!
That this 1040 is in the premium segment is noticeable in everything. The device feels solid and looks neatly finished. The speed and precision of the navigation are excellent; on the road, the 1040 is easy to operate which, among other things, helps recalculate your route if necessary.

The best bike computer you can buy right now....
Works like a charm, battery I haven't charged all vacation and is still 80%. Integration with Strava top, new routes are immediately on the homescreen. Display is very clear (sharp and good contrast), even with sunglasses. Also the touchscreen works fine, much better than on my old 820. Only downside is that it fits a bit tight on my hidemybell (partly because I don't have an integrated cockpit and the stem+inserts take up some space), making the lower buttons a little harder to reach, but it's still workable.
