If you like to ride rugged, off-road terrains, the Shimano XC502 is the perfect shoe for you.
The upper part of the Shimano XC502 features Shimano's Surround Wrapping. This means the entire foot is wrapped in a seamless piece of leather. This creates a better fit and fewer gaps between the shoe and the foot. With the BOA L6 dial closure and velcro closure you can properly and quickly adjust the fit. A simple twist of the dial is enough to tighten the fit. The BOA L6 dial closure is safe to use while riding your mountain bike.
Upper shoe made of synthetic leather and mesh
The upper part of the Shimano XC502 is covered with synthetic leather and mesh. This combination of materials keeps these shoes lightweight and makes them very comfortable. The mesh material also improves breathability, which decreases the likelihood of your feet overheating.
Reinforced mid-sole with good grip
The Shimano XC502 shoe has a mid-sole, which is fibreglass-reinforced. This makes the sole stiffer (stiffness index: 7) and the power transfer onto the pedals more effective. This way, your efforts on the mountain bike are transformed into speed with ease. In addition, your foot will feel steady and stable in this MTB shoe. As such, this not only positively affects wearing comfort, it also maximises efficient power transfer. Thanks to the lightweight ULTREAD rubber outer sole, you're equipped with durable and competition-worthy grip.
Select your preferred spikes and change them if needed
Gentlemen who plan on riding with these Shimano XC502 MTB shoes can select their preferred spikes and switch them out as well. In this way, you can always attune your shoe to your riding style and the weather conditions.
In order to help you select the right size shoe we have measured all shoes ourselves. All that's left for you to do is measure your own foot length, and we'll tell you which shoe size per brand suits you best. Does your foot length in mm not appear on the relevant product's page? That means this particular shoe is not available in a size that suits your foot length.
Measuring your foot is easy. Just put a sheet of A4 paper on the floor with the shortest side against the wall. Place your foot onto the paper with your heel touching the wall. Draw a line where your big toe ends (or where the next toe ends, if it's longer). Repeat the process for the other foot and use the measurements of the bigger foot. Now measure the length of your foot on the paper; this is your foot length in mm. Please note: some manufacturers have their own measuring system, therefore, the size stated on the shoe box can deviate from our measurement.
The right shoe size for you can differ per brand. This is because every brand has their own last, which may run small or large. In addition, we have divided all shoes into the following categories: narrow, average or wide fit.

Good shoe but size chart is not correct for my wide feet.
These are my first cycling shoes and would be very happy if they fit, especially since they are rather a (relatively) cheap shoe. I ordered the wide version of these shoes according to the size chart. I was glad there was a size chart because I am aware that I have wide feet and the right shoes are very important. As I hit the inside with my toes when trying them on, I immediately sent them back and ordered a size larger. I have been cycling with these shoes for a while now and every time I have sagging toes after 20-30 minutes until I take them off. After a bikefit and insoles still the case because this shoe is not that wide at all according to my fitter who feared for me that I had made a bad purchase if the insoles did not help. Consequently, I may order shoes from another brand and this is 100 euros in the bin because I trusted the size chart. So people with wide feet are better off looking at another brand. Definitely take advantage of the guaranteed fit if you notice the same thing, I am too late. The shoe itself is good quality and the buckle works perfectly, even if it sometimes feels fragile when opening the wheel. The sole is sturdy and since buying insoles here on mantle (recommended), I can apply force to the shoe with my full foot without any flex of the sole. I step down the spiral staircase of our flat almost daily with my bike in hand on these shoes, not a single slip on the natural stone in our stairwell yet, even though stepping with a hard sole is a bit clunky. The shoe is definitely a summer shoe (as described in the product), I don't have cold feet easily but last week after a short ride in 17degrees, my feet were deathly pale when I got home. I had not fastened 1 of my cleats hard enough, consequently it was able to move freely and I was stuck in my pedal for a while. Something that gives some risk and 'panic' when you are still getting used to click shoes. Not a fault of the shoe but a tip for other beginners! In short, a good clean for a nice price as long as you don't have wide feet.

Top shoe.
Fine shoe. Followed the size chart via Mantel and the size ordered was exactly right. I had previously ordered an xc300 wide version. I ordered this shoe in the regular version. I am very happy with the choice to go for the xc502 after all. The fit is better for me (fits more closely around the foot). Because the BOA is placed more on top of the shoe and you have a separate velcro strap at the front, this shoe pinches much less.

Why didn't I buy this earlier?
After a year on flats on the MTB, I decided to look into click pedals. Bought these shoes together with Shimano 520 pedals. What a pleasure! So much more confident on the bike and especially when climbing, this feels much nicer. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. The shoes fit well, despite my somewhat wide feet. I had to find out at which distance the plates were positioned correctly. After a bit of fine-tuning, I have now found the ideal spot for this. Clicking them on and off is very easy.
