Shimano SPD-SLR Cleats

These SPD-SLR cleats belong to Shimano’s latest pedal system and are available in four options, each offering a distinct level of float. This allows you to choose your ideal degree of foot movement, ranging from completely fixed (0 degrees) to 3 degrees of free rotation.

Important: These cleats are compatible only with the new Shimano Ultegra R8200 SPD-SLR and Dura-Ace R9300 SPD-SLR pedals. If you use alternative Shimano pedals – such as 105, Ultegra R8000, or previous-generation Dura-Ace R9100 – continue using standard Shimano SPD-SL cleats.

SPD-SLR: Closer to the pedal axle

Paired with the new SPD-SLR pedal platform, these cleats provide a stack height that is 2.3 mm lower than that of the previous SPD-SL system. Bringing your foot closer to the axle provides a more stable platform and direct power transfer.

Faster engagement

A wider target area and a 10.5° engagement angle (compared to 15.5° on SPD-SL) ensure faster, more natural clipping in when pulling away or exiting corners.

Contrasting alignment markings

Clearly visible markings on the cleat simplify initial fitting and repositioning, helping you replicate your ideal setup easily.

Four float options

The red cleat (CL-SL100) is fully fixed with 0° of play for a locked-in, direct feel. The yellow cleat (CL-SL110) provides 3° rotational float, making it the ideal choice for most riders. The blue cleat (CL-SL120) offers a balanced middle ground with 1° float for a stable platform with slight rotational freedom. Finally, the grey cleat (CL-SL130) also offers 3° float alongside oversized mounting holes compared to the other three variants. This provides extra positioning range when transitioning from non-Shimano shoes featuring fixed 3-bolt patterns. Please note that the grey version does not offer the lower stack height or weight savings of the red, yellow, and blue SPD-SLR cleats.

• Shimano Ultegra R8200 SPD-SLR pedals
• Shimano Dura-Ace R9300 SPD-SLR pedals
• Road cycling shoes with a 3-point (3-bolt) attachment system

Not compatible with

• All other Shimano pedals, including 105, Ultegra R8000 and the previous Dura-Ace R9100 – these use the previous SPD-SL system and do not accept these SPD-SLR cleats.
• Look Kéo or Time pedals – these are not compatible with Shimano’s proprietary mounting system.

Not sure? Here’s how to check

Look at the pedal itself – if it says “SPD-SLR”, these are the correct cleats. If it says “SPD-SL” (without the R at the end), you will need the standard SPD-SL cleats. If you are still unsure, compare the shape: SPD-SLR cleats are more compact and flatter than the wider SPD-SL version.

Not included / still required or useful:

• An Allen key to fit the cleats
• Assembly paste for the fixing bolts

Cleats can be installed in a few minutes per shoe using an Allen key:

• Place the cleats onto the shoe's 3-bolt mounting points and tighten using an Allen key.
• Use the contrasting alignment markings to position the cleat accurately and preserve your setup when replacing worn cleats.
• Before installation, lightly grease bolt threads with assembly paste to prevent corrosion and seizing.

• Inspect cleats regularly for wear; worn cleats compromise clipping efficiency and release reliability.
• If unsure which float level to select, start with the yellow cleat with 3° float (CL-SL110) – it suits the vast majority of cyclists.
• Mark or note your preferred position using the visual alignment guides to ensure quick, exact placement when fitting replacements.
