Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • Thanks to its low spring tension this pedal is very suitable for novice cyclists who want easy to unclip pedals.
  • The low spring tension makes it easy to clip in and out of the pedal.
  • The large surface area facilitates the smooth transfer of power and reduces the risk getting sore feet.
  • The low spring tension makes this pedal less suited for competitions and performance-oriented cycling, as they are not secure enough during a full sprint. This should not be a problem during tour rides however.
  • This pedal is relatively heavy.

Description

Description

The Shimano RS500 SPD-SL pedal is the successor of the Shimano PD-R540 Light Action and is suited for a many different types of cyclists. Both beginners and more experienced cyclists will notice the benefits of these pedals. These pedals have a larger surface area, are quite high in stiffness and are easy to clip in and out of due to their low spring tension. As such, they can be your ideal riding partners!

Easy to click in and out
The pedal has a lower spring tension making it suitable for beginner cyclists. These pedals are easy to unclip, which helps you to get comfortable cycling with clip pedals.

Larger surface area, easier pedalling
These racing bicycle pedals have a larger surface area. This enlarged surface area allows for more efficient pedalling and prevent the feeling of sore feet for longer.

Durable components
The axle and body of this pedal are extra durable, making these pedals last quite bit longer than the average pedal. The body plate reduces bending and additional sealing was added to the axle to keep out dirt, mud and water.

Great pedals

- Dirk 31 December 2023

I can't tell when clicking in and out that it's any lighter than my previous 105-series pedals. Fine with me. You sit well, you don't slip out easily.
