Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The AquaGuard® two-way zip is a clever addition that allows you to also unzip from below.
  • The use of lightweight Japanese fabrics makes the jacket easy to store when the rain has stopped.
  • The fully taped seams improve the jacket's waterproofing.
  • The reflective band on the arm increases your visibility and, therefore, safety in dark conditions.
  • As the jacket has no additional insulation, it is not suitable for extremely cold conditions; in mild temperatures, the lack of insulation can be an advantage.
  • As the jacket has no pockets, it may be less practical for some riders carrying a lot of gear; however, the lack of pockets makes for a slimmer design and less weight.

Mackintosh against wetness from above

- Mathieu 24 October 2025

A rain jacket that keeps you perfectly dry in rain and showers, with the familiar rapha looks. Folded up a bit bulky for the back of your jersey. Sizing and fit that may be familiar to you if you also have Rapha shirts, trousers, etc. At lower temperatures, you will be able to get by with a thick base layer and long-sleeved jersey, but there is a risk of being tight in your jacket. Being water- and windproof means there is little to no drainage of your own exertion moisture, for long rides and multi-day trips I would consider a jacket that handles perspiration better (wicking).

Pros & Cons

Lightweight
Waterproof
Windproof
No pockets
Non-breathable

The rain has just given in.

- Nicolas 29 September 2025

Sunday morning, the alarm goes off. It's 7 o'clock, and the night still has the landscape in its embrace. The weather forecast on your favourite app shows 8 degrees, and as if that wasn't enough, a risk of light rain is expected in 2 hours' time. It's at this precise moment that a scathing question casts doubt on your usual routine. "What if I don't go?" But you're not that person. Who gives up. Who admits defeat before the battle has even begun. No. Because you've got a Rapha Core Rain, a modern-day shield, a black breathable waterproof jacket. Even the little voice in your head has come to terms with the fact that you'll be riding this morning. And it doesn't matter if you're doing 100 km at an average of 20 km per hour, or if your average power output over 3 hours is just 2 watts per kilogram, you'll be riding this morning. In spite of the cold, in spite of the rain, and you'll come home dry, with a sense of accomplishment. All because you read this review and bought this Rapha jacket. And yes, as you know, black is slimming.
