The Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxGrip DD TR is the signature downhill mountain bike tyre of three-time world champion Greg Minnaar. Assegai stands for the type of spear used by the Zulus, an African warrior people. This tyre has been made with a single goal in mind: maximum grip for maximum confidence. The high-studded tread has been designed to maintain grip in sand and dust, and also to provide the best possible grip on wet tree roots, rocks and the like. When cornering you will find that this tyre really digs down into the surface, allowing you to lean on your bike with confidence. In short, this mountain bike tyre makes all the difference between being able to keep to the ideal racing line and ending up in a ditch.
The triple-compound MaxxGrip uses the softest rubber compounds for ultimate grip and shock absorption in downhill applications.
DoubleDown
DoubleDown stands for a 120 TPI dual-ply carcass with a butyl insert. This keeps the weight down for enduro while offering the protection of a downhill tyre. Thus, you get the perfect mix of protection, stability and weight.
Tubeless Ready
The Maxxis Assegai 3C MaxxGrip DD TR tyre is ready for tubeless riding, that is, it can be used without an inner tube. This has many important advantages such as lower rolling resistance, more grip, more control and more comfort.

Great tyre. In the worst weather conditions, it doesn't show any weaknesses. Only when the mud gets deeper is it no longer its world. But still predictable and controllable.

Amazing grip from this tyre, it’s the new DHF up top!

The Assegai is a phenomenal tyre up top, amazing grip in all bar the most extreme conditions (slop and snow) used it for 3yrs in the Peaks in the U.K. and also Portugal and Spain, it just performs. The DD variant does add a bit of weight, but for the puncture protection it offers, it’s a no brainer for me.

The Assagi Dd is a great all round tyre for dh and enduro! Amazing grip in lose and loamy stuff whilst still grabbing onto wet ricks and roots!
