Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- A soft, breathable fabric that blocks the wind and light rain without making you overheat.
- Specially woven 3D lining that doesn’t stick to your skin, even when you’re sweating. It’s comfortable to wear over a short-sleeved jersey.
- A hood that fits under your helmet, with a reinforced peak to protect against wind and light rain.
- Two zipped front pockets; one of the front pockets also serves as a storage pouch in which you can pack the jacket away compactly.
- Reflective details on the elbows, chest and lower back.
- The jacket is water-repellent, not waterproof. If it’s really raining, you’d be better off wearing a raincoat.

The GOREWEAR Fernflow Hooded Windbreaker is a windbreaker you can take with you almost all year round. It’s designed for three seasons on the trail and off-road, and protects you from wind and light rain without making you too hot.
You’ll notice the difference from a standard windbreaker straight away. The fabric is soft and supple, and the inside features a specially woven 3D structure that wicks away moisture. This means the jacket doesn’t stick to your skin, as most windbreakers do when you’re sweating. It’s therefore comfortable to wear over a short-sleeved jersey.
The outer layer is a double-woven fabric that’s airtight and has a water-repellent finish. This means it blocks the wind and a light shower, whilst still allowing the jacket to breathe. The casual fit, with contoured shoulders and a cut designed for a forward-leaning cycling posture, gives you complete freedom of movement.
If it gets cold during a break, simply pull up the hood. It fits under your helmet and has a reinforced peak. The jacket also features a padded collar, elasticated cuffs, a drawstring hem, two zipped front pockets and reflective details. It is available in red, in sizes S to XXL.
Non-stick 3D lining
The inside of the fabric has a soft, woven 3D texture. This wicks away moisture and prevents the jacket from sticking to your skin when you sweat. This ensures it remains comfortable to wear, even directly over a short-sleeved jersey.
Breathable wind protection
The outer layer is a double-woven fabric that is largely windproof and has a water-repellent finish. This means the jacket blocks out wind and light rain, whilst remaining breathable enough to prevent overheating.
Kinetic Design
The cut is designed for the forward-leaning position on a bike, with contoured shoulders. This gives you full freedom of movement and ensures the jacket doesn’t pull when you’re on your bike.
Suitable for
- Trail riding and off-road rides, in spring, summer and autumn.
- Wear a short-sleeved jersey underneath: the inside won’t stick to your skin.
- A cycling helmet: the hood fits underneath.
Not suitable for
- Rides in heavy rain: the jacket is water-repellent, not waterproof.
- Wearing it over your helmet: the hood is designed to be worn under your helmet.
- Cold winter rides without an extra layer: the jacket has no insulation.
Not sure? Here’s how to check
- If you want to wear a warm layer underneath, customise the jacket to fit that layer. That way, you can be sure you’ll still have enough freedom of movement.
Included as standard
- 1 x GOREWEAR Fernflow Hooded Windbreaker for men, red
Not included, but useful
- A waterproof rain jacket for proper rainy days
- A short-sleeved MTB jersey to wear underneath
- Put the hood on before you put on your helmet. That way, it fits neatly underneath.
- Tighten the drawstring at the hem when it’s windy, so that the wind doesn’t blow under the jacket.
- Wash the jacket according to the care instructions on the label, close the zips before putting it in the washing machine and leave it to air dry.
