Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The light, centered stud profile makes this tyre lightning-fast on dry circuits.
- The PureGrip compound offers a great compromise between traction and durability.
- The tyre's carcass consists of 3 layers with 180 TPI for optimal contact surface for the road.
- Made of a compound with excellent handling characteristics in terms of grip but also longevity.
- Tubeless Ready technology makes the tyres easy to make tubeless with 90ml of latex sealant per tyre.
- The Race King isn't the best for muddy circuits.
- Tubeless sealant should generally be topped up every 3-6 months.

The Continental Race King II Performance MTB tyres are fast due to its low tyre profile. They are best used on dry unpaved surfaces. The Continental Race King II Performance tyres have very low rolling resistance and are good to use on fast tracks. This applies to both cycling on the roads as well as in the woods. At low tyre pressure you can even go a long way when the roads are wet.
PureGrip Compound
Based on active silica compound, a material was sought for the Performance segment. After extensive research, our R&D department came up with a new compound with excellent grip and life span properties. This new rubber with the name "PureGrip" follows directly on the BlackChili Compound and is used on racing and mountain bikes in the Performance class. This tyre with a lot of grip and a long life span is exclusively made in the Continental factory in Hefei (Asia).

Good no-nonsense gravel tyre
- Jeroen 25 August 2025
I use the Race Kings in the 50mm version as a gravel tyre. Easy to fit and well airtight. No loss of speed compared to the 40mm tyres that were standard on my Trek Checkpoint ALR. More comfort and grip, though. Recommended.

Fine tyre for the way I use it.
- Dick 26 September 2024
I gravel quite a lot and therefore also drive quite a lot of asphalt km, despite that quite long lifespan.
Pros & Cons
Old tyre only wore out after 4500 km.
This, despite also quite a lot of asphalt km's.
