Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- Thanks to the all-round knob pattern, these tyres are suitable for conditions ranging from dry forest surfaces to muddiest terrains.
- The open tread stays clean during the ride, maintaining optimum grip.
- The 3-layer carcass provides the tyre with the necessary puncture resistance and durability.
- The Blackchili compound makes the tyre more flexible where necessary for optimised rolling resistance.
- Tubeless Ready technology makes the tyres easy to make tubeless with 90ml of latex sealant per tyre.
- Tubeless sealant should generally be topped up every 3-6 months.

A material based on an active silica compound was researched for the Performance range. After extensive research, the Continental R&D department came up with a new compound with excellent grip and life span properties. This new rubber with the name "PureGrip" is the followup of the BlackChili Compound and is used for racing and mountain bike tyres in the Performance class. This tyre with a lot of grip and a long life span is exclusively made in the Continental factory in Hefei (Asia).

Top tyre for the front in combination with a raceking behind.
Normally I use racekings on the front and rear, which roll great and give a lot of traction when it is dry or wet, but when it is wet the racekings sometimes let me down at the front. So I tried these on the front. First ride of 50km I noticed that it feels just like a raceking in terms of rolling resistance (ride them on 1.5 bar). Traction was perfect and immediately gave me a lot of confidence. Now we'll see what it's like when it's dry in the summer. Maybe I will leave it on instead of the raceking. Already feels like a better combi than the (overrated) racing Ray and Ralph combi.

Top tyre, great grip, surprisingly low priced.
After 2 hits (leaf & muddy), time for more front grip without much increase in weight & rolling resistance. The race king I normally ride remains a favourite from spring to autumn. This cross king gives unlimited grip and has not once surprised me in a negative way so far.
